Default Stype 4.2 2004

I have just bought a S Type 4.2 2004 and on the 140 mile drive back the orange light on the dash came on saying gearbox fault. Then I turned the ignition off and restarted it,the light and message went off and hasn't come on again.Could this be the sensor or possible it needs a ATF change Ant ideas?

What is the age and condition of the battery? A failing or weak battery can cause all sorts of electrical faults. With the ignition off, the battery must have 12.2 volts or higher across the terminals, if not, the battery must be replaced.

You do need to service the transmission. This would be new fluid, sealing sleeve and a new pan/filter. Be sure and have the TCM software updated to the latest version too.

Might be something as simple as low fluid level.

Thanks for the replies.I have seen that other people have had problems when its wet as the TCU does not like getting damp.I think ive heard that somewhere before.

Damp? The TCM is inside the oil in the autobox... Damp it is not.
