I noticed something yesterday that I didn't notice before. I started the car seeing if I could find an vacuum leak. After a minute or so I started smelling gas. I shut her off. Now I just had the oil changed and a new fuel filter installed. I wonder if it was installed incorrectly or not secured correctly? Could this be the culprit?

Did you figure out what was wrong with it? I'm having similar problems with mine. started a couple o days back. My codes were P0300, P0301, P0303, P0305, P0335, P1313 and P1111. The mechanic i took it to, checked the crankshaft position sensor and found nothing wrong with it. But i changed all the spark plugs anyway. Still have the same set of codes and restricted performance.

Save yourself money - fill in your car details (see below) and read about similar issues with whatever engine you have.

Give other relevant details like mileage, too. We're not psychic y'know!

If you don't have the same engine please start another thread - don't hijack...

You need to be real careful here. A quick glance says you need to find the cause of a miss-fire. That said, my 3.0 had a failed cat cause miss-fires. My first clue was the miss-fire codes were all on one bank (side). So, like I said, it can get tricky since constant miss-fires can damage a cat or.... a damaged or failed cat can cause miss-fires... Mine ended up being the later. Once the offending cats were replaced, the miss-fires were gone for good.

Its a 2003 S Type 4.2 V8. 112k miles. I had these details in my signature setting, but dont know why its not showing up in my post.
I drove the car maybe 5 miles to and from the mechanic after the restricted performance warning showed up. Is there a way i can figure out if its a problem with my cats before trying to replace them? Or anything else I can ask the next guy to check or change?
Thanks for the response guys,
- Atul

I hauled the Jag to the dealers mechanic Saturday. I'm sure he will have it for a few days before I find out anything.

I didn't know that if the CATS go bad they throw a code. I'm hoping thats all it is since they were giving off a strong odor.

Sorry I took so long to respond to this thread. All in all I had a bad coil. I was throwing a few codes and once the coil was replaced and the fuel injection system cleaned she now puuuuuurs like a kitten.
