Supercharger Bearings

A few days ago my 2003 S-type R started to have a tapping sound coming from the top of the supercharger. I had it checked out and it was the supercharger bearings. I was told it would be easier to just get a supercharger rebuild kit. Is this true? How hard would it be to take off the supercharger? Any answers are appreciated.

You did not state the miles but I would bet it's the coupler and NOT the bearings. The coupler is plastic and is kind of a shock absorber between the rotors and the engine blower belt. As the miles build up this coupler wears and gets some slop in it. This is where the noise comes from.
You can go several ways. Just replace the coupler, get the front end snout rebuilt (This will be the front bearings and coupler). Or pull the blower and get it rebuilt. Remember that there are bearings front and back but the front bearing tends to take most of the load and wear.
If you do get it rebuilt you can get porting done and/or have a smaller pulley installed at the same time.
Finally in case you don't know. The STR has a rubber coolant hose that runs under the blower. It has been known to leak. So whatever you do, please consider changing this. It's a cheap hose and a whole bunch of labor to get to it!!

my 03 had the front bearing replaced and i was told that they used a solid/sealed type bearing vs the factory type.. i honestly dont know.... but i can tell you that it does make a little noise... my 03 has 95k on it but the motor was replaced with a 40k k one, the speed shop said they did the supercharger bearing, coolant, plugs, ect... repuatable place as they do all high end customs...take a look at my picts.
