The car that I just did has 76k on it. The thing that helped most to make easier access to the EGR valve was removal of the cabin filter housing. Also replaced the heater hose that runs under the supercharger. Sorry, no pics.

I had to review my photos. Unfortunately the answer is no.

The trouble is that hose leaks most often occur just beyond each port connection, where the stress on the hose is greatest.

So you need to remove the supercharger AND all of the aforementioned parts to access the connected ends of the hose in question. Both ends of the hose and their clamps are otherwise totally inaccessible:

The front port (at the back of the thermostat coolant manifold) is directly underneath the supercharger front snout. The opposite end connects to a small coolant port in the side of the electronic throttle body housing.

And of course, the EGR valve is also bolted to that intake elbow casting. Removing it is probably the most awkward part of this repair.

I'm sure all of these items where installed on the engine before the entire engine assembly was bolted into the vehicle from underneath, along with the front subframe, at the factory.

My advice? Take a very Zen approach to this repair, and replace every old seal or hose. You really don't want to do this twice.

Cheers and good luck!

Yeah, I had a feeling this was going to be answer ...

Thanks.

What do think about the guy who took a look and found the hose good as new? Very weird no?

So based upon your observations the probable vehicle assembly manual for these cars was:

1. Install coolant hose.

the entire rest of the car's assemble follows ...

Any info on that hydraulic body lift(in your photos) for the mechanic to gain better access?

I'm thinking a mortuary supply house?

I could find nothing when I googled.

Just thought I'd add to this thread as it seems to be the main one on this topic. I just did my coolant hose under the blower while changing out a bad knock sensor. Mine was also in almost new condition. And my car is an 03 with about 125,000miles on it. So, I have NO idea how this hose was in this good condition after almost ten years, that many miles and going through the crazy seasons we have here in Winnipeg. I know it is still the original hose. I guess it depends on the mood of the hose you have!

I'll add my input on the hose changeout.... While doing the hose, make sure you use new gaskets on the supercharger discharge and on the intercoolers. The shop that I went to did not due to the high cost/increased profit and I within 1 year had to change all of them due to failure. They're not hard but why waste time.

Yes. I think you need to change the coolant hose under the super charger.

Dealer cost is about $1800 and up.

Are you a good mechanic??

Exclamation Right tool for the job

Hi zetecstr101,

I've just done mine - it was a pretty hard job all because of the bolts holding the EGR valve. If they come out easy then the job is fairly straightforward, if the 8mm bolt-heads are rusted or damaged then get hold of a special socket like these:

IRWIN 5 Piece Expansion Set 5/16" - 8mm, 10mm, 13mm, 11/16", 3/4" - 19mm: Amazon.co.uk: DIY & Tools IRWIN 5 Piece Expansion Set 5/16" - 8mm, 10mm, 13mm, 11/16", 3/4" - 19mm: Amazon.co.uk: DIY & Tools

...and drive it with a UJ on a ratchet with extensions, otherwise you may spend many hours struggling to get into the tiny space behind the engine dropping tools, skinning knuckles and generally starting to hate your car.

Now that the job is done I love my STR again!

When I did this job it took ALL of my patience and a lot of time to complete. Thanks for your updates. It is not likely but if you changed plugs and/or coils too, I'd start looking there first for your missing on all cylinders problem.

Look at fuel trims. If they head towards zero as you rev then you have an air leak (which is what it likely is).

As a dealer, I don't even buy these cars anymore. Frankly, they are junk and full of problems. The last one I had needed a new rear differential assy. Pulling that engine apart is not worth the problem. I will never buy another one. Good luck to you guys trying to justify owning these.

Your opinion has been noted. Many of your <30 posts have a negative tone. Please be helpful or feel free to move on to another forum.

Tony, this thread is about repairs to the supercharger cooling system. Let's stay on topic. But since you insisted:

These cars require less care than the BMW's from the same period, and especially the M5. I speak from experience here. Tony's venture into luxury car ownership was a failure. This was due to his own inability to afford proper care and maintenance for his particular vehicle by not following the regular service schedule. Tony is just insecure about this and feels compelled to remind everyone on this forum on a regular basis.

I've said it before and I've said it again. If you're looking for a fun car that you can easily afford to maintain and modify, then there are plenty of really nice, fun Chevys, Fords, Mazdas, or Hondas available to play with. Go choose your flavor.

But if you venture into the luxury car segment, then simply be prepared to spend the money required to maintain your particular BMW, MB, Audi, or Jaguar model of choice. Far less people bother to maintain and modify these cars or to even own them beyond the warranty period, so of course the parts and repair are expensive. Welcome to reality.

Then Go Be Happy. But don't be a sad sack and complain that it's too expensive. That's like complaining that your house is too big and your swimming pool requires too much maintenance. Or that the rent for the hangar in which you store your helicopter went up again this year. Aww, poor baby. Want a Kleenex? Need my shoulder to cry on? Perhaps a tampon might help?

If that's the case, then simply don't own luxury items, and Go Be Happy. Live a Happy Man's Life, not a Whiney Boy's Life. You can't have your cake and eat it for free too, ladies.

You obviously have little to no knowledge of high end automobiles. Please go back to you junk honda and toyota's.

You will be much happier!

This is the same lack of knowledge as when people insist that Jaguar is a fancy Taurus or some other Ford. Yes they were both made under Ford ownership. Yes they are both cars. But they have nothing in common or even close.

So these type of people really don’t want to know the facts. That’s certainly OK because these stupid people have created a huge opportunity for people like me who can actually read!

Super low price for an expensive car? That will work for me!!

Now if we could get the same morons to get everyone to believe the 2009 and up CTS-V’s are junk. I would love 556HP junk car!

You got more spare time to burn??
