Thanks for your info brutal, I just called the jaguar dealer in Huntsville Alabama and asked for a quote to replace the torque converter and they told me 5K!!!!!!!! That is nuts. I found a import shop that works on jags they told me its a 7.7 hour job and it will be around $450. labor and I found a great deal on a complete rebuild on my converter from dalenzie.com for $300. plus shipping. If any one need their number and who to speak to let me know, they were real nice and said they had a 24 hour turnaround time! Wish I could do the job myself but it may be more than I can handle. Should I ask to have the shop change my AT filter and fluid, I know its a sealed unit but it still can be done, correct? What type of fluid needs to be used? Once again thanks for your help.

thanks for the provided info, i am not stressing the TC job anymore, if it happens after warranty than it happens. I plan on using the Mercon SP for the ATF, even before TC fails.
You seem to understand the innerworking more than myself, so can you tell me if there are computer parameters or sensor outputs I can look at while driving or stationary to check the torque converter, assuming i have the jag diagnostic tools?
Also, about the diagnostic tools that jag uses, can someone tell me the differences between jtis, ids and wds and which is most recent and pros cons.

dgatt: I would have your fluid changed, just incase there are any contaminates in your old fluid, debris, water, etc.
brutal: I still remember TCI and PTC lol I just thought they would laugh at me when I told them what kind of transmission and car the converter was for... Ha I guess I'll give them a call, TCI is who I usually use. When you started talking about the misfire counter it brought back memories of when I had to use that on my Audi.. I remember I had two bad coils once and I was in VAG-COM watching the counter and two of the cylinders looked like they were racing each other to a thousand.. I think I had 900 misfires in 2 minutes once, god I hate coil packs! I wish I could convert the Jag to points hahaha I know of a couple guys who did it on the LS2 in the new TBSS by drilling a whole in the back of the intake..
lol you've just got to love redneck engineering.. [sm=americanasmiley.gif][sm=partyparty.gif]

Me and my friend Dave went racing last night in the warehouse district... It was about 63 degrees, 15 ft above sea level and we were running qt mile and 1/8 mile passes.. Sorry we didn't have a g-tech to record performance, but it was a good time..
He has a 08 Trailblazer SS with Superchips and exhaust that can run high 12's if it can hook, probably around 440hp.. and I was running the Jag.. I was launching at like 2k rpms and I was killing him out of the whole, by a full car.. He would catch me at like 60mph and then would pull a half car on me at around 105... That things is fassstt.. on paper: my car has more gears, as much power, and its 800lbs lighter... but when the SS shifts, you get thrown violently back into your seat... The ZF is smooth, but that 4L70 in the SS is just mean.. and the 6 liters of displacement helped him too..
I was ashamed of my Jag and wanted to re race with the duster, but thats like bringing a cannon to a knife fight.. [8D]

I have a question off topic, I've had allot of sports cars and been a member of a forum to every car I've had. Every forum has a kill story section, you know a race section. This is the only forum I have been on that does not have that, and the STR is quick car. Any comments

I tried talking about a few of my races once and everyone on here got mad at me..
this forum is full of boring law abiding citizens I guess and they don't like street racing..
So I guess the answer to that question would be, there are not very many fast cars on this forum so no one talks about racing.. However, I get in at least 2 good race either coming from or driving to Ft. Lauderdale every day.. Just last week I got into it with a DBS and two weeks ago me and this Supra got into it and took our cars up to 150 on I-95.. The supra had carbon fiber: doors, trunk, bumpers, door panels, 13" wide volks, and a turbo that sounded meaner than my T76.. Needless to say he beat me every time, he gave me the go then reeled me in bad, but it was a hell of a lot of fun!

The DBS was something else.. not nearly as fast as the supra, but it was amazing.. I see DB9s all the time, but never any S's... I got next to this guy and dropped it into neutral and gave him a rev, we honked it out and he let me take if, he pulled on me and I topped my car out trying to catch back up... We definitely need a kill story section, or an R section..

BRUTAL is this ATF ok to use in a 2003 3.0 v6 s-type? what is the oem one? do i have to buy the additive that they put in our ZF trans for the growl/nosie from the TBS that are out their for the noise's and shifting, is this one better? i am going to have the trans and filter changed on my car.

I am wondering if these surges are the same problem I experience with my 03 s-type v8. Or it may be a different problem. It happens only once in a while, so not all the time, which is odd. Some times It will have a rough shift form 1st to 2nd gear almost a whiplash almost and then also when I am at red light, foot on the break, I can feel the car shake and my rpm jump around slightly, it is really odd and doesnt always occure, any help? I am not sure what warranty I have, but I know it is the top of the line, but the dealer still wants to charge a diagnostic to check it out, but I dont want to spend the cash on that. they have done tranny work before for the rough 1st-2nd gear shift, but I am noticing it starting to come back. any help is greatly appreciated.

Your rough sifting from 1st to 2nd sounds like the lurch! This surge in my STR is only between 30MPH and 50 MPH, its a 100RPM surge. Almost like the car is pulsating back and forth. It is visible on the RPM dial, it will jump up and down around 100 RPM's. After a few miles it goes away.

You guys are definitely describing the Lurch. http://thelurch.com/
Very typical issue. Mine does it first thing in the morning or afyter the cars sits for a while.
Kinda makes me think the parking brake is on... dragging my car down... pulsating RPMs.
In many cases, the Adaptive Transmission needs to be set back to default.
Have the computer re-flashed and your issue may very well go away.
Each year the Lurch/Surge appears just as you describe in my 2003 S-type.
I have the computer re-flashed and no more lurching for another year. ($110.00)
Sometimes, my dealership has to re-flash twice... but it always solves the issue.
