Default Rattle

Thanks for posting this, Gus. How did you know what was causing the noise, just getting in there and trying to see what was loose? I'm getting some rattle on my '02 3.0 with 93k on it, and I'd like to fix it myself if I can. What's the best way to figure out what's needed?

Thanks.
Nathan

You need to get under the car and check things out. When I did my car I made a list of the items that looked worn or felt loose and replaced them. What I found on both my cars was that the stabilizer bushings were the major contributor to my noise replacing them was the right thing to do.

That's a good point!!

The front sway bar bushings were a problem on the Gen I of both the S Type and the LS. The factory actually had an entire sway bar replacement TSB but it usually was the bushings.

If you currently have a clunk or front end noise do the easy stuff first. Unbolt the sway bar from the end links and drive around. That will tell you right away if the sway bar bushings or end links are the problem. They appear to be the first items to go.

I must say that the entire suspension seems to hold up very well. My wife's 2003 LS and My 2005 STR are both around 90K miles and every last piece of the suspension is still factory!!

Yes it has a good explaination.

However I ALWAYS properly lubricate any rubber bushing. I use a slicone based grease. As hard as it is to change the bushings I don't want to go back in when they start sqeaking.
