Got a couple quick videos. GoPro isn't very good sound-wise, but you should get the idea:

Sounds like a late model XKR. Enjoyable for short trips.

Indeed. If it were my daily driver, I wouldn't want it that loud; but for occasional driving its fine for now.

If someone is going to do test pipes, here is how to keep your CEL from coming on.

(Sorry for the blurry pics)

First buy 2 spark plug anti-foulers (Part #42009)

The part that sucks is you have to drill on large enough for the o2 sensor to pass through. You need to use a 1/2" drill bit to make the hole. A drill press makes this job so much easier. You only need to drill 2

Before:

After

Screw them together

Put the o2 into it

After that put it back into the car and hook it up. No CEL

Mike, excellent tutorial. Even Billy Mays (may g-d rest his soul) would have been proud.

I used the low profile banjo style on my car as clearance is an issue.

JgaXkr - same question

I get no codes & the o2 test passes the readiness as well.

I don't get any codes either. If you don't add some type of spacer you will most likely get p0420 and p0320 (?). Both are related to the cats (left and right) stating that they are below threshold values.

I meant: which codes did you get that meant you put those extra things on?

Or did you just assume you'd get or might get codes but don't actually know?

He assumed the codes would show.

Er... why?

And if they would have been cat efficiency ones then it must mean there's unburned fuel+air which sounds like a fuelling problem, right?

No, cats being below threshold means that the cats are not doing their job, and since they are no longer there on a test pipe, it will throw a code. The air/fuel mix is done by the first set of o2s. I should have specified that this was done on the 2nd set of o2s.

Cats are there to burn any unburnt fuel+air. (That's the emissions stuff.) Cat efficiency codes mean it's not happening but also mean there was unburnt fuel+air or bad fuelling. What else are you saying such codes can mean / how else can they occur?

edit: I suppose they can also trigger (falsely) if you have an exhaust leak, but you'd want to fix that!

The issue is that the computer is seeing the same values on both inline o2s which it interprets as a bad cat. There will always be unburnt fuel in the exhaust as a byproduct of combustion. And you are correct, the cat chemically converts the leftover, but by just moving the 2nd o2 our of the direct line of the exhaust stream, it won't throw the code. That to me means that combustion is sufficient enough to make it past the 2nd o2 without a cat in place and pass emissions.

This is the actual fault code

Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold

I hope this was a bit more clear

Thanks. I guess it would fail a tailpipe test (which is what is done here).

On these cars the upstream & downstream O2s are completely different but I suppose the computer could translate the readings and be upset.
