Default throwing code 0304

Engine was running rough so got the codes read at orieleys.....
showed a p0304 which i think is misfire on cylinder 7....
found a chart that makes me believe that 7 is at back of motor
on passenger side.....this correct? plan on switching coils with another
cylinder to verify is a coil.....all this happened after several weeks after
getting a upstream co2 sensor code, for which i have the part but not
have had installed yet.....this sound like a good plan and is 7 in the back on passenger side? Thanks in advance for any help. oh....its a v8, 2003 not turbocharged

Actually, it's a misfire on cyl #4 - I'm sure someone will chime in on which side cyl 4 is. I think rear drivers side but I could be wrong...

Driver's/Passenger's side is a dangerous way to describe location on a British car!!!!!

The 4.2 V8 will be numbered different than a 4.0

4.2 liter
2 1
4 3
6 5
8 7

4.0 Liter
5 1
6 2
7 3
8 4

See page 16 (VSB_07_2004)

Default thanks

thanks to all for the info....yes passenger/driver not best way
it is a 4.2l , but to nail it down, looking at the top of the engine standing in front of the car where is cylinder 7? my left or right? and in front or back?

I'm thinking is on my left in the back....please correct me if mistaken,
also...the prices of replacement coils all over the place, wondering if best to replace them all with a package deal and if price is true indication of reliability.

Sorry I got the order mixed up in the above post.
I corrected it.

P0304 is CYL #4 (forget about #7, that is not your problem)

The top of the numbering is the front of the engine (where 4.2 Liter is)

#4 will be the second cylinder from the front on the DRIVER's SIDE for a LHD car.

I know you know it's cyl #4 but there are 2 different Cyl #4s.
I was noting the different numbering systems between the 4.0 and the 4.2 V8 engines.

Jaguar switched V8 cylinder designations and it is confusing.

Thanks.

Code P030x means cyl x.

For an S-Type, usually coil for cyl x, but doesn't have to be the coil.

If all else fails, download the free workshop manual - it's what it's for

okay thanks for all the info, when we first got the car I ordered a "Jaguar Technical Information System" cd and I either misread it or it was lacking, (i'm going back to decide which) and that's what got me going on cylinder #7. I don't check in here a whole lot, really appreciate it when I do, but have had some bad experiences with
some of the local "foreign car shops" so may be a little over-careful. Thanks again.

If you go to the stickies at the start of s type you wil be able to download a copy of the JTIS
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/general-tech-help-7/jtis21-win7-64-install-method-new-archives-65926/

and if you go to Gus"s web page there are lots of documentation there http://www.jagrepair.com
