Default Time for new tires. Continental DWS? I did search

So I have Continental Sport Contact 2 on the fronts and Sport contact 3 on the rears. The car was this way when I bought it with about 14K miles on it. Now they're shot and they've always been hard riding and rather noisy so after looking over TireRack's reviews and all the comments on here I'm now looking at Continental Extreme Contact DW or the all season DWS version.

The DWS get's pretty good reviews too but I haven't seen nearly as much about it. Given the weather here I think the DWS makes more sense even though my intent is to NOT drive this car in the snow at all.

A lot of you guys really like the DW but has anyone tried the DWS?

Thanks.

I've never used Continental tires before. I've had a few pirellis on my jag, but I've mostly stuck with michelin. I just got new michelin pilot sport a/s 3 last month, which are close to the same price as those DWS tires. So far so good. I know this doesn't really help answer your question though.

I have used them on several cars and I think they are one of the best all seasons available.

Thanks for the reply.
I'm very tired of the rough ride I get with the Continental Sport Contac 3 tires.
Unfortunately most of the roads I frequent here are so full of surface issues that the ride is a continual jarring one. The steering response has been good though.

Does the steering response suffer much?

My STR came with new tires so I haven't put them on this car yet, but I have used them on a Nissan Maxima, Acura TL, and a modified BMW 335i (400hp and RWD). I am not an expert but I thought they were better than every other all season I've used. Grip is great (dry/wet/snow), ride is quiet, steering seemed fine and they last a long time. I think it's a great option, there is a reason the reviews are so good. They do seem to have gotten more expensive lately so thee are several cheaper choices and other good options, but I'm sticking with them when I need new tires for the STR. I have a truck for the winter but I like all seasons just to be safe.

Another great option is the Yokohama YK580 tire, available only at Discount Tire or America's Tire. I did my research then put a set of them on my wife's 2006 XK8 last year. Great wet traction, great ride, low noise, long treadwear life, and very affordable....

They don't list the size for the rears ...

I would still call and speak with a store manager. Sometimes the hard-to-find sizes are not listed on websites or in brochures that do not have the most current information....

I am somehow going to try and get three things done here in November; new tires, powder coat rims, new front brakes.

I like the idea of not going to a ubiquitous tire store like Discount Tire, so I am going to try and order from onlinetires.com because their prices are unbeatable and then have my buddy's shop install them. My budget is near $700 for all four, so I am looking at these BF Goodrich GForce Sport C2's. Using tiredirect.com's handy tire comparison tool, they have the highest grip and traction, with a little more noise than the competitors, but seem to act like they are $20-$40 more for the money. I'll write a review once I pull the trigger. They are $50 off right now and half of shipping to the lower 48. These are summer tires, so since I live in AZ, I am very fine with that

Went with the Contact DWs and they were installed yesterday a long with an alignment. The rears were down to wear ribs but the FR was down to cord on the inside! No the alignment was not off. So he made an adjustment to compensate for this.

These seem to have better ride, it was in the low 30's here yesterday, and car is so much better now. The fronts were from 2008 and the rears from 2009 so it was time. a little over 26K on those and I don't drive it that hard.

I'll keep a closer eye on that RF this time.

Ya the fronts always wear on the inside first from the camber on the strs. Better handling.

Or that they're set to the old (wrong) alignment.

Ya I did some more research and reading on that last night and found that out. I researched it like a year ago and everything I could find just said that's how the s types were. But obviously that's different now. Looks like I'll be doing some adjustments

Michelin is where it's at! I have been a tech for 16 years now and have delt with just about every brand there is. Michelin are by far the quietest, longest lasting, best riding tire hands down. You get what you pay for!

I just put a pair of Michelin Pilot Sport AS 3s on the front of our STR. Will need to do the rears this spring/summer.

The Falken FK452s that were on the car got noiser the more they wore.

Michelin has made some great tires over the years and some awful ones as well. They are usually overpriced when I go to get them as they were this time around. I used a lot of their XGT series tires in the late 1980's & 90's. Those were fantastic tires. Their vintage XWX tires are fantastic for high speed, straight line, smooth roads but they suck for handling and a smooth ride. The XGTs were far superior in every way. I wish they would bring those back.

The DW tires I got were not intended for snow duty but I unfortunately had to use them that way the last two months. It's been brutal here and a couple of problems with my Suburban have forced usage of the Jag on dirty, salty and icy roads. The DWS would have been a better choice given the advance of the Ice Age we're experiencing. Once the roads are reasonably plowed and salted they've "survived". In the dry and wet they're terrific. But they're also new. All tires fade over time and with heat cycles.

Michelin does not have a lock on the best tires. No one does.
It's nice that you're excited about them though ...

Agreed. I ran Michelins exclusively from the 1970s into the mid-1990s. But other manufacturers caught up to Michelin's quality while Michelin got a bit fat, dumb, and happy on their long-time reputation....

For the past couple of decades I've managed to find other tires that equaled or exceeded Michelin in performance and longevity, in some cases for half the price of the comparable Michelin model. I may wind up never purchasing another Michelin tire again....

I used Uniroyal Tiger Paw Touring on my 01 S Type V6 and for $400 out the door, all tires are replaced with an excellent 55k mile tire with a wear warranty.
