Default timing issue?...need help

1. do both upper tensioners install same way, I ask cuz, the one on bank 1 , the spring is pointed down, (factory)and bank 2 , spring on tensioner is pointed up(upgraded by previous owner).....you can make tensioner go up and down about 1/2 inch by pressing on it...is that normal, or was tensioner installed wrong?

2. the crankshaft flat spots on bank 2 don't line up like on bank 1 (perfect), can I just remove upper tensioner on bank 2, then turn lower(exhaust) crankshaft, or move secondary chain one tooth to line bottom flat spot with top one up?? I know there's a tool kit, for replacing chains, is that kit also used to align crankshaft to cams and set timing??? looking for help on how to align the crankshaft to cam , and can car be timed with just valve covers off, or do you have to take front plate off engine.....

I'm almost positive, that the problem I'm having is cuz bank 2 crankshafts aren't lined up,I've looked everywhere on internet, looked in jtis manuel also, and don't see anything about how to re-time or align......I'm close just need a little more help......I would appreciate any advice

Well I don't mean to get on you but we have several dozen giant threads on this?

I just found this one with a quick search. See if it helps?

sorry, it wont happen again.......I know how to put in tensioners, but can't seem to find a thread on what to do when the crankshafts don't line up on one bank seems like it skipped a tooth, how to get them back in line to lock down with tool, before changing tensioners, would you know if there's a thread for that..... been looking so far no luck....

You need to use the Jaguar Timing tool. Sorry I don't have a great picture of it but take a look.

I have another set of install instructions but the upload limit is 5 MB and it's 5.9 MB.

You can download my copy of the Jaguar Engine Repair Course 168. It has the answers to almost any question.

Gus should have it on his site if it is not here on this forum in the large file sticky section. It will likely be in the X100 or the X308 sections but the engines are all basically the same.

Yes the flats should lineup that is the reason for the tool that is bolted on top of the cams so they are in sync.
