Default Tire size (I used search)

My search came up with two threads, only one even mentioned that they were running this size, but had no more detail...

My situation, I hit a huge pothole (courtesy of a driver who wanted to share my lane) and the inside rear passenger tire is shredded for lack of better words. No loss of air pressure (yet) but I won’t let the wife drive it... it's bad.

I came a crossed a set of 95% new tires, for $50!!! (Manufacture warrantee) The issue, they are 245-50-16s. My OEM is 225-55-16. The overall diameter is the same; the rev per mile is a negligible difference (+/- 2 rpm). WILL THEY FIT? I know the 2 rpm will change the Speedo, but let’s be honest, it's off anyways. GPS is what I set cruise too. Will they fit? Rubbing?

If not, I will order a new set, but the cost will be much higher. The shop will hold these for me till 1600 today.

Thx for any inputs all.

Obviously having checked to make sure the bolt pattern is the same your next biggest single concern I think is the "offset".....this is more likely than anything else IMO to either cause you problems or not.

What is the offset of your current OEM wheels against what you're looking to possibly buy?

If it helps any.....I ran 225x50x17's on my Audi A6 with a 38 offset iirc....when i fitted my 255 x 35 x 19's I thought I may have to fit spacers but the offset was 43 ....they stuck outside a little further and if anything make the car look meaner

I think he just wants to change tires, keeping the same rims. AFAIK they'll fit OK but any tire place should know. I don't think they'll rub but someone will know

I thought all the tire sizes were in the handbook but I failed to find them if so. They may be in the brochures, many of which are on here or jag-lovers (or google).

Yup, same wheels, just diff tire size. But thx JimC64. And thx jagv8, I can't find the tread width differance relavant to the space the rearwell has, but they will both fit on the OEM wheel width. I think for $50 I'll just get'em. If they don't fit eBay for $50 a piece will be easy.

Thanks again All.

If anyone IS running this size on a 16inch OEM wheel, please chime in.

Ooops, you're right Jagv8, I didn't read through thoroughly enough

My "guess" is that there's plenty enough clearance as you're not going OTT...( as stated, albeit on my A6 I went from 225 - 255 with zero issues )
As you say for $50, Jeesh, go for it, I think you'll be all good and Ebays your friend if all else fails

Thanks again All.

Don't forget to drop back by this post and tell us how you get on

The issue, they are 245-50-16s. My OEM is 225-55-16.
The new ones are a little bit wider, I'm not sure if that'd be an issue or not. I think I currently have 250 whereas OEM was 245, and mine are just fine but you have a larger difference there.

The STR has 275 in the rear so 245 sound OK. Granted, different rim, offset probably changes. Width is less of an issue anyway as they're not steered as the fronts are

Well, I got'em mounted last night. Cooper Lifeliner SLE Sport 245/50r16. They look great, almost new. They fit very well, better then OEM imo. (looks anyways)

They only changed the speedo 1mph. Before if I set cruise @70 mph on the car, the GPS said I was going 68mph, now it reads 67mph. I can live with that. These are nice tires imo.

Thx for all the input Gents. Now we all know that 245 50 16's fit nice on the 3.0 w/ OEM wheels.

Edit: Opps, I ment 245/50r16's.

Oh I forgot the bad news...

That pothole I hit also dented the inside lip of my wheel... it has a hair line crack, holds air, but prob wont for long. Now I gotta shop for wheels too. GERRR! I found this set, looks like the offset and everything matches up, but it says wont fit my application... Gerrr! Also it says it is a 5x108 but it also says it's a 4 lug, WTF?
