Default It was too good to last - dead touchscreen console

I knew 11 trouble-free months was pushing my luck - turned the car on this morning and have no satnav console, no heater controls, nothing except the radio working. The LCD display is cycling errors 50 / 51 / C1 and the heating seems to be stuck on full blast.

I've had the error 50 & 51 before and just took the satnav disk out of the drive and put it in again which fixed the problem fine, however this time the drive won't eject the disk. I'll check the fuse when I get home tonight but I have power to the CD autochanger to I'm fairly sure it's not going to be that.

So, can anyone tell me what the C1 error is, and what I can do to fix this issue please?

I don't honestly know, it came with the car which I bought 11 months ago so it might even be the original for all I know. The car starts perfectly every time though?

It does thanks, in a scary sort of way. Sounds like I'll have to take the DVD drive apart to get the disk out... I might try a battery dis-connect first to see if that clears it. How long are you supposed to leave it disconnected for? I assume you only need to un-hook the negative terminal?

Sorry if I'm being dense btw!

You can disconnect the negative cable and touch it to the positive cable which discharges the capacitors.
Or you can just disconnect the cable and leave it for 30mins - 1 hour.

I would not throw the towel in yet!!

It's very rare to have your problem and the very few times it's been reported it was fixable. I don't think I have seen one time where it went dead and had to be replaced? It must of happened but just very, very uncommon.

Well I had a fiddle last night, took the fuse out and checked it and put it back in again which cleared the C1 error and restored power to the DVD drive so I was able to eject the disk and re-insert it.

However, it still won't read the disk. I noticed that the disk (which is the 2003 original) is pretty scuffed and grotty looking so I was thinking I'd just pay up for a new disk and be okay, however....

...when I turned her on this morning to drive to work the radio now isn't working either, which it was yesterday!

The bottom row of buttons on the console still work (hazard lights, DSC, door locks) but that's now it, the rest of it is dead except the LCD which is still showing 50 / 51 errors.

Now it's been pretty cold here for the last few months and I mostly only do short trips so I suppose the battery might well be low, but having said that she still starts first time every time with no fuss or cranking. I'll take her out for a blat at lunchtime today to give the battery a good charge and see if that helps, otherwise I might be calling the garage I think.

Okay, so a lunchtime 60 mile thrash has brought the radio back to life but not the nav console. I ran the display diagnostics menu, that all worked fine so I know the screen and buttons are all good.

The "PWM Status" option shows a battery status of 12.8V (with the engine running) but of course I've no idea what it's supposed to read, does that sound about right or not?

Idk if this might help but I am in the process of putting in a DVD setup and back up camera in my 05 str I'm use in the stock screen now it's a rgb setup so I get black and white right now making an adapter for rgb to composit anyways if you look at the back of the DVD rom there will be a plug with white red green 2 black blue wire I lost all my screen functions and got a 50/51 code when I took the green wire out of the loop so I would check connections at the back of the DVD rom as it just might be loose again I don't know if that will help

Failing battery and/or faulty alternator, with 10-1 it's the battery. I cannot even try to count how many have said "but it starts the car fine" despite last legs battery.

Once you have known good power if nav doesn't come back best way is to get an updated nav disc and it should reload firmware. Do NOT attempt with a dubious battery nor turn off ignition while in progress. Takes up to about 40mins I think.

There are other threads about this if you hunt.
