Default Traction control fault.

This is the first problem I've encountered with my car ( if you exclude breaking the ashtray lid hinge). 2002 S v6 ,The traction control fault warning came on . I've removed both rear wheels , checked both sensors , cleaned them and all looks good. No damage and nothing wrong with wiring. Is there a relay in the electrics for the traction control? .....Abs light came on , stayed on. Not going out. Thinking its causing the traction control to fault . It's probably simple but as its currently snowing like crazy I thought I'd ask if anyone has come across similar problem and what did you do to fix. Cheers.

Cant say for certain if it would be the same on the 02 but I had a similar issue on my 03 STR with the traction control and ABS lights.

In my instance it was actually the front left ABS sensor that was bad and was throwing the codes. Apparantely the sensors tend to get alot of abuse from snow, water, mud... you get the point and moisture gets in under the seal causing the sensor to fail...

You can replace the front ABS sensor but in usually better to replace the whole hub assembly. You can get a descent new hub with sensor pre-installed off of eBay for around $100 it does take some effort to install and you will need a hub puller for sure, but its something you can do in the garage over the weekend...

Before you begin "throwing parts" at this issue - get an OBDII reader capable of picking up "C" codes, which should show up regarding ABS/DSC systems. Once you get the code(s) post them here.

If all else seems OK, check your battery. ABS and Traction Control and EPB lights were the ones I remember always coming on when the battery needed changing. Not that it couldn't start the car, just not enough voltage to satisfy those sensors.

Could easily be battery. To read codes you need an OBD tool that reads the ABS module, which almost all don't do. (AE does, so do the jag tools.)

Thanks guys , I'm gone from home rite now, will get on it tomorrow . I don't think my OBD diag tool has C codes , it's an innova 1003f. May need to pick up another OBD11 reader . Any suggestions which works best with my car?
