Default transmission fault

2004 s type jaguar 96,000 miles. The transmission fault error comes on when going up a hill and sometimes down a hill. When I stop and shut the car off, then restart the error is gone, and the car drives fine. It does not change gears when fault error comes on.

Scan for codes and have fluid level checked. Specific procedure. Perform a forum search.

+1 on searching this forum.

Is the MIL on, if so post the DTCs here for help. Quite often a misfire from one or more cylinders causes the 'Transmission Fault' warning.

Do not operate the vehicle under conditions that cause the MIL to flash as catalyst damage is occurring.
