You gonna want to get a new pan because its not really the gasket leakiing but the pan warping since its plastic. A new seal for the pan in most cases will not seal it. Want to check, lay a straight edge across the pan at different points. It should be perfectly flat.
At 4.5 litres i cant see how the car moved cause a drain and fill is normally 4-5 litres. Also if youre that low I would be concerned about permanent damage. see what codes come back and how it shifts for now

Just ordered all of the parts i need from ZFTranspart. Oil pan, updated bolts and a sleeve. with 2 day shipping the total was $227.

I'm going to buy more Castrol Multi Import oil, but i'm wondering now about the addative for these transmissions. I've sen the Jag part #, but is there an accepted generic brand that can be used here in the US? I've not come across any mention of one in the threads I've read so far, other than Forte's which I can't seem to find anywhere.

If I remember correctly, the first time Jag. advised an additive was to cure "the squawk", something to do with the torque converter lockup clutch. Try Googling the Forte additive to find a supplier near you; if I can get it in Leeds UK and it's H/O is in South Africa, I'm sure you'll be able to lay your hands on a tube!

Cool

Just thought I would add that there is a deep-sump pan w/dipstick kit for the 6R80 transmission (Ford version of the 6HP26) in the 2012 Mustang Boss 302. From everything I've been able to cross reference it should fit, but you will have to switch over to the separate filter. YMMV

Default fluid locally

hi
congrats on problem almost solved , at least for now and hoping no permanent damage done
my guess is previous owner must have done drain and fill without starting plus leakage cause this much fluid loss

thanks brutal for as always spot on advice and definite procedure for checking

i had the privilege to use lift at the shop i work free of cost
so took my time studying this fill drain and check procedure of zf
old zf fluid came out brown looking as it dripped (black if put in glass cup)
and smell of strongly burnt fluid , mileage on car was 50000 miles and after 9 years ( it 2003 str)
also changed rear diff oil and power steering fluid , both came out almost black and also supercharger oil (smelly black fluid)

between 40c and 50c temperature on transmission pan , there is difference of almost 400ml fluid , just my guess as i did 2times take it to 50c and then plugged and took it down to 35c and added almost roughly 400ml each time to make it start dripping at 40c ,
and manual states in checking procedure that fluid shud come out at 35c
so i think plugging at 40c is safer
with 10+ liters capacity 1/2 liter may define high and low point ,
maybe but this all just my unmonitored guesses from what i did

but tech wud have definite answer on this ,

about one of previous posts ,
mercon sp is replaced only in torqshift transmissions by mercon lv .
6hp26 and 6r60/6r75 still state mercon sp as recommended fluid ,
i was given mercon lv as dealer parts guy said lv replaced sp but when i asked to see any official document of this change they cudnt provide any
and also called ford helpline and they also said no such info is available

if 6h26 made by zf in navigator uses mercon sp , i think that cud used in our jaguar transmission
and datasheets for lifegaurd 6 and mercon sp are too similar and state them as same colour ,
ford dyes it red just to spot leakage easier
i used mercon sp in mine , maybe right maybe wrong but has worked gud for me , made it almost 25% smoother ,
i know many wont agree with mercon sp but that is only fluid recomended directly by manufacturer for 6hp26 , gud enuf for me

attached pdf shows latest transmission fluid chart by ford

cheers

You want to be in the right forum

I think it will be a gearbox not fitted to the cars here.

Be careful about using the Ford information. The first Fords did use a ZF 6 speed transmission starting in 2005 but then in 2009 Ford licensed the 6 speed from ZF and built it completely in their own factory here in the US.

We don't have any info about what differences if any between the Ford version and the ZF version??
