Default Transmission Fault/Engine Light

My Name is Abnas, purchased a 2005 Jaguar S-type 3.0 with 29700 miles, two days ago. Driving from work in the evening, the cars jerked a couple of times when the gears shifted from 2nd gear to 3rd gear.

Came to stop light , taking off again the car jerked and a Transmission Fault appeared with the gears stuck on 2nd.

Drove a little and pulled on the side and restarted the car. The fault disappeared and reappeared again after the car jerked again and the check engine light came on with Transmission Fault .

Stopped the car again, the transmission fault disappeared and the check engine light is now "ON".

Drove the car shifting the gears manually until home the car did not jerk.

Any help at what to look at will really help.

Hey there,
sorry to hear of your issues.

Please be aware though, this is the new member section andreally only for intros.

You're unlikely to get the help you need here, so I'm moving it for you into the S type section.

Please feel free to revisit the new members area and start an intro thread.

Good luck

Get the codes read (or DIY - see OBD tools in General Tech forum) and post the numbers here.
Don't assume it's the trans (though it is possible), as often an engine fault upsets the trans.

Agreed, could be as simple as a vacuum leak causing the shift issues.
