Default Transmission jerking

Hello everyone,
My 2005 S-Type has suddenly begun to jerk violently in first gear under heavy acceleration. This happened after my brother left my sunroof open during the rain which got the shifter soaked. The car now doesn't let me go into any of the manual gears, only park reverse neutral and drive. The sport button still works, however If I'm in sport and try to shift into manual gear select the sport feature deactivates and will not work until I restart the car.

I have done tons of research before I posted this and have even thought of changing the fluid, however I am worried because I cannot select manual gears to pump the fluid through the transmission fully! She is a 2005 year model with the 6hp26 and a 3.0 v6. Oh and Btw the jerking had stopped for about a month but came back again but I was still not able to shift into manual select when the jerking stopped.

Thanks for all your help!

The fluid is being pumped all the time so it's irrelevant and anyway it's sealed - especially from rain like that!

It's fairly easy to take the console around the shifter apart (Search will get you details) and see what's wrong but it may be nothing to do with the rain. Instead, check the bolts on the side of the trans (from under the car), quite common they come loose or fall out. Search / read stickies for info.

Just about possible you have more than one problem, in which case one would probably be a faulty coil causing a misfire.

+1 on comments above. Not likely to be the transmission fluid itself. No matter the root cause, make your brother pick up the costs for having left the sunroof open.

Haha thats what I'm thinking about doing if the bill is too hefty. The thing is tho it only jerks in first, only when I floor it. However it will not hesitate in any other gear not matter how hard I step on it. It idled like a rock no hesitations or anything.

I thought the car would run rough at idle and in all gears if it were the coil, also it would throw a misfire code, which it doesn't....perhaps I'm wrong ? I'm open to all answers.

Nope, coils are a bit temperamental. They can let a car idle fine, but once there is a load on the engine, they misfire.

I would suggest you trying hard acceleration in 3rd or 4th, but you can't shift into those gears.

JagV8's suggestion to check the two bolts on the side of the transmission is a good starting place.
