transmission, now with auto-drain
I was driving my dad around since his brake line went out in his car. It's about 102 outside and my str does not like that temperature very much. Despite the car getting stuck in 1st gear repeatedly from leaving a light in town, it's now decided to released the transmission fluid itself after I parked it. I got my laser temperature gun last week in the mail, so I zapped the transmission pan with. Pretty sure 112 degrees Celsius(no that's not a typo) is more than twice what I should be reading.
On the bright side, I guess I don't have to jack up the car to remove the drain plug now. I have a new pan, but who knows where it's leaking from yet.

I take it back. It looks like it was coolant. It's all over the engine and the coolant tank was empty. I poured some water into it, didn't see anything drip out. This was about 2 hours after I parked the car. So then I filled the car up with fresh coolant and started the engine. Everything seemed ok, no leaks. Drove it down the street and back without leaking. So now I'm wondering, what the heck happened?

I was in myrtle beach for a week, then had to deal with some army processing, so I just finally had a chance to look back at the car. First thing I found was a mouse nest buried inside the engine. Some magic fingers pulled it out.
The coolant I refilled it with was still there, so I'm also thinking a pressure leak.
I also called up the dealership and asked what it'd cost to have them do my transmission pan and oil. After arguing with the guy for a minute cause he insisted the transmission never needs serviced, he told me it'd cost $350 plus cost of fluid.

Haven't really had any trouble with the coolant since. I'd really like to know what the heck happened that blew out a gallon of coolant, but I haven't been able to repeat the issue. (good thing I suppose?)
This thursday I'll be taking the car into the dealership to have the rear bearing replaced, at the enormous price of $200 but frankly I can't find anyone else in town that will do it. Tomorrow I'll decided whether or not I feel like replacing the tranny fluid myself or just sucking it up and having them do it for me. My luck, the 6L I supply won't be enough and they'll gladly charge me $65/L like they said.
