Transmission oil pan leak help
Can anyone give me some ideas on what to do with my transmission oil pan leak. Should I change the oil pan and add new transmission fluid or what should I do. All suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

136 Views but 0 other Replies as I write. Remarkable considering how extensively transmission issues are discussed in both XJ and XK8 forums.
I'm not familiar with the S-Type but an oil pan leak would seem to be an obvious time to do a replacement combined with a fluid change. Fluid changes are not included in the service schedules but have been shown to usefully extent transmission life.
Hopefully S-Type owners will post with comment and advice.

https://www.thectsc.com/ is a good source of parts., Mercon SP can be a more economical choice than the ZF fluid as mentioned above you should replace
the electrical sealing sleeve when you have the pan off.
Be sure to read up on the filling procedure and make sure you can get the fill plug out before draining the trans.
There are many threads with good info here's one https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ics-faq-30991/

Yes get the service kit which includes a new plastic pan/filter assembly.
Also replace the sealing sleeve and the pan bolts.
Do you know how to check and/or change the transmission fluid?
It does need it.
Post back if you need help finding the kit but DON'T go to Jaguar!

The pan/filter part is cheap and the bolt upgrade is worth the effort so can a fluid change without the extra work be justified?
No way to guess the fluid amount with the pan in place, too many variables.(length of time and angle of pan?)
I would guess about 6 with pan/filter but just a drain? (less)

I get what you're saying but this isn't a cheap out move. I have done the filter service with the mechatronic sleeve and bolts already. Everything looked even better inside than I had hoped for. This task is to just get more renewal of the fluid while resetting the fluid level back to the appropriate level after my radiator change and still to be done trans cooler line repair. I used 6.8 liters then, I was suspecting that leaving the pan in situ will stave of the 0.8 bottle. I know for sure it is going to be easier and cleaner. I believe that the original poster might be leary of a substitute fluid for fear of hurtling our intimidating transmissions, but I've come around and though I also used the Lifeguard oil then, I will use the SP fluid this time.
