Well to be truthful, I've got kind of a lead foot. I'm was used to driving a S/C Mustang and a late model Z28. I just didn't care for the creature comforts of the formers. The Jag was a loaner from a buddy selling it while I was between cars and I fell in love with the goodies and bought it. Now I just keep driving it like a Z so it sucks up fuel pretty well. I did get it on the highway on a 60 mile trip a few days ago and damned if I didn't see the instantaneous mileage hovering around 7 to 8L/100km. I used to get that with the Z too but not nearly with as much class and comfort (or quiet).

Yea, back to that ol power to weight thing again... My old 4cyl Accords used to get about the same. My cousin got a 6cyl Accord to replace his 4cyl and gets the same MPG with the 6...

As I've reported before, on my wife's long interstate drives back and forth to Tampa to visit her parents she routinely averages 33 to 34 mpg with cruise set on 72 to 74 mph and running the HVAC system on auto mode regardless of the time of year. I never would have believed this was possible if anyone had tried to tell me this prior to owning the car. Just one more unexpected benefit to stealing this S-Type during the most miserable depths of the economic depression in December 2008....

The CRV is the 4th Honda we've had in the family. None of them have delivered the expected fuel economy. All I can figure - these people that rave about the fuel economy these little hi-tech 4 cylinder cars get must never go over 60 MPH, and, stick to flat ground. Over the years, my all-time fuel economy champs were both V6 powered GM cars - a 75 Olds Starfire with the old 3.8 (2 bbl. Carb), and, a 08 Saturn Aura with the 3.5. Sitting in 3rd place - would be the Jag 4.2.

you and me both, with the STR i am getting 28 mpg running at 72-74 also. Its almost funny in a weird sort of way. I dont know why everyone keeps questioning it. And this isnt a flat area either, huge mountains and a few flat straights on my monthly trips. I have seen 28.3 as my highest right now, with 25 being the lowest with the A/C running the whole time.

Default UK guys going with propane

With all the talk about the good mileage we get with our Jags.Upon surfing the UK Jag forum I was amazed at the number of guys who have or are considering going to propane.

The cost to convert is quite expensive.I wonder if the reason is more to do with the cost of fuel than the mileage they get on petrol.

Has anyone in N.America heard of a Jag on propane or if it is even available over here?

If I'm not mistaken, the other reason for the propane switch is that get's you an exemption from the "congestion tax" as well since it is considered a ULEV fuel. But, I could be wrong...

UK gas (petrol) is about US $8 per UK gallon i.e. about $6.40 per (US) gal. LPG (propane?) is a bit over half that, I think.

the biggest reason for changing is cost as petrol here is about £1.12 a litre there's roughly 4 litres to a US gallon not sure of cost of liquid gas but think its about .60p litre ( I am sure someone will correct me ) conversion is about £2000.00

I hope, just like deisel fuel LPG has improved over the years.
Back in the 80's I was with a company that decided to convert 300 of our trucks to propane. The thought was due to the cost of the fuel and its cleaner emissions we would increase our MPG and decrease down time.

It worked in reverse. The vehicles would not start if the temp was at or below freezing, the additives in the fuel gummed up the carburation system and the fuel would not flow until warmed up.Also it had become very popular with fleet companies so the price started to get near the petrol price.

We switched to deisel after a few costly years and took a big hit with these used trucks that nobody wanted.

I am sure with todays technology the bugs have been worked out.

I think they start on gas, plus have some sort of heater for the LPG. Er, or something LOL - it'll be on the net in detail I'm sure
As I recall (badly!) it's cleaner than gas but does need to be installed and set up appropriately (no surprise, really).
