I have another minor issue that is kind of annoying. If i press the trunk release button on the key fob or anywhere for that matter, it clicks but will not lift open. its like stuck and i have to manually pry it open... its like the trunk has glue on it.
any ideas?
thanks in advance everyone

Also lubricate the latch. In fact it's a good idea to do all the doors as well as the trunk latches. Use spray white Lithium grease and work it in a bit by opening and closing the door/trunk. It comes in a spray can with a tube for aiming. It's a sorta tough to find but Auto Zone or someone similar do carry it.
I treat my rubber gaskets with Sylglide. Get it a NAPA, it's a bit expensive but really makes the door gaskets work well. Stops them from freezing to the door frame and helps quiet squeaks too. It's a very good rubber lubricate/treatment.

I use Sylglide as well. A little goes a long way. My tube of Sylglide is probably pushing 20 years old. Last weekend I was going through a cardboard box of various automotive products on one of my garage shelves and found a mostly-used-up tube of white lithium grease dated 1972 on the label. Unscrewed the cap, squeezed a dab onto my finger, it looked and smelled brand new, so I applied that dab to the plastic latch pin on the fuel filler door mechanism that's known to be a common failure on the S-Type (ours has failed three times thus far, all under warranty). The grease still works like a champ even though it's pushing 40 years old....

LOL Jon....a case where the "fix" is seven times the devil that was there before. Not sure which version the 04's got, but I've dealt with the failed fuel door latch on the 03 and the 05....and I'm persuaded if an overzealous wife ever decides the 05 is "by gawd gonna close!" I may be in for a replacement fuel door! Think regular lube may keep it in check though.....

I experianced both problems with this car. Trunk seemed to fix itself after a few cycles. The fuel door had me stumped. It would click but nothing happened. To make maters worse, I had no idea which way it hinged. I held the emergency release in the trunk and gently worked around prying with my fingers. Once I got it open a shot of WD40 got it working without the massage.
This one sat in the salvage yard for several months which I'm sure agravated the sticking issues.

I've got a problem similar to a "sticking" trunk that's clearly not got anything to do with the gasket. It opens fine with the release in the cabin and also the keyfob but not the button on the trunk lid itself. Hopefully it's just a loose connection since there's no telling where I'd find a replacement and I'm sure the dealer would want plenty to replace it anyhow!
