Turn Signal doesn't work MOST of the time?
I just got my first jag, a 2003 S-Type R, and I'm pretty happy with it, but it does have some problems I'm struggling with.
My biggest problem is that the RH turn signal doesn't work MOST of the time. Where the dash would display the mileage, it instead displays a message to the effect of "RH signal failed". I forget the exact message. Where it gets puzzling is that sometimes the error on the dash will go away and the turn signal will work, briefly, before going back to erroring. Even without seeing the dash message I can hear it working because when it has errored the indicator sound is very fast. When it is working the indicator sound is slower.
Thoughts? Since it does work occasionally I'm pretty sure it's not the bulbs or a fuse. I'm not really a car guy so go easy on me!

When the turn signal doesn't work, does the front or back still work? Or do both not work?
Carefully remove the bulbs and look at them as the filament may be broken but connects when the vehicle hits a road bump.
Check the bulb sockets for corrosion, and insert new bulbs to see if the RH signal consistently works.

Also, when replacing bulbs on a modern Jag, use the exact bulb specified in your documentation and not one that just looks the same; using the wrong bulb will give the modules problems and the owner fits trying to figure out why the car's lighting system is doing strange things...

Thanks for the responses everyone. When the signal works and doesn't work it affects both the front and the back signals. I didn't know the bulbs needed to be so specific! When I got it, the headlights were(and still are) different colors so I'm wondering if the previous owner swapped out the bulb and put in a wrong one. I'll do all the suggested checks!
Thanks! Here's hoping it works.

Any updates?
I'm in the same camp as the others, to install some quality name brand bulbs and see if there is any improvement.
Haven't seen it mentioned yet, but also check the bulbs in the front fenders, aft of the wheel. Those operate as turn signals, too. A bad bulb there could affect the others.
