Default Turn Signal problem

I have a 2000 Jaguar S-Type 3.0L.

My turn signals are having issues. I've checked and changed the bulbs and that does not seem to be the problem.

Currently, the front turn signal lights work on both sides. The back driver side turn signal light also works. However, the back passenger turn signal light does not work. The dash blinkers reflect this by blinking at double speed when turning right (towards passenger side).

Additionally, sporatically (but rather commonly) no turn signal lights will work at all and the dash will not blink either.

I tested all bulbs and also removed the turn signal switch just to take a look. I saw some "gew" on the connectors and cleaned the connector. When I replaced the switch the problem persists.

I am assuming that I need a new turn signal switch but dont want to buy a new switch (approx. $124.95) if this isnt my problem.

Any suggestions?

Also, any suggestions on a place to buy the turn signal switch?

Sounds to me like a bad connection. Does the stearing wheel connection that the radio controls go through mess with the indicators? I read on here that can fail rather commonly...? Just more food for thought. I'm sure someone more educated will chime in.

But the sporatically working and not working would leed me to a conection, or the switch.

He is talking about the clock spring but the turn signal switch does not go thru that.

Before you replace the turn signal switch double check that your car has ALL the correct bulbs. Jaguar uses different bulbs and a lot of people don't check and you can jam the wrong bulb in the socket.

Also the "gew" is supposed to be there. It's di-electric grease to prevent corrosion of the terminals.

This sounds like a ground problem. Do you have the proper JTIS?? They are only about $10 on EBay. If you don't have one - get one. Best $10 you will ever spend.

I switched the rear driver side bulb (which works) for the rear passenger bulb (which almost never works) and it didnt work so Im pretty sure its not the bulbs.

I do have the JTIS but I wouldnt know where to start. I am concerned that it could be a ground problem. If so, where do I start? And does that mean that its not the turn signal switch?

The JTIS has a complete wiring diagram. So you can trace the circuits. It might be simpler for you to just change the turn signal switch and see what happens?

You need to realize your car is 10-11 years old and has had many cycles on that switch!!!
