Default Unlock button on keyfob no longer works :( Options?

The keyfob seems ok but the unlock button presses all the way down and never unlocks the vehicle. I'm wondering if it's a microswitch that could be de-soldered and replaced? Anyone know how to disassemble these keys? My other option I would think would be to disassemble the keyfob, buy a new one and swap the metal physical key since it's already cut, then have the new one electronically programmed (I think this can be done without the dealer with some instructions...)

Any assistance is GREATLY appreciated!

Oops sorry I suppose that would help! It's a 2005 S-Type. I bought a fob replacement from the guys that someone on this board recommended... $50 seems awefully cheap but I'll assume it's the real deal?

Since the key / fob comes apart in two pieces I was hoping to re-use the cut metal key half and then reprogram the upper electronic half. Sound like a good plan or am I nutty?

Thanks!

Your plan works for me. The key is seperately programmed from the remote fob. You can switch the key to your new fob with no trouble but the fob will have to be programmed at the dealer with the IDS. The S-type doesn't have a manual programming option for the key fob.

Ok thanks for that info! The site that sells the keys says they include programming instructions, but I suppose I'll believe that when I see it I'll just take it to the dealership and see what they want $-wise to program the key. Wish it wasn't such a tightly sealed unit as I can tell from feel that it's just the micro switch inside that's shot and needs replaced.

Dealer can charge from $60-100 to reprogram the keys. Should be free.

Believe me you guys definately dont work for free, and your rates are above market to say the least, your key working should be something that has a warranty for life. I will take it from the dealer on a lot of things, but the key not working out of the blue and the only fix needed is to reprogram? Making simple things overly technical in order to profit when they break isnt good business to me. So to answer your question, no I dont work for free either, but I do stand by my product and don't nickel and dime people. Let me know when your in the DC area though and I will take you to dinner.
