Default Upgrading To Newer Model Year Grill

Hello, i have a 2000 jaguar with the plastic vertical grill. I would like to upgrade to a new model year grill with the mesh grill. Could i simply buy a 2006 grill and bolt it on? I know there are mesh kits off ebay, but i would prefer an original one. Thanks.

I don't think so. MY2004 and earlier are what you need. Grill line allegedly changed in MY2005. I've not tried to swap grills between my two, but did fit a MY2000 obtained via eBay to the 03 to compensate for a minor mishap my daughter had.

I think that because the newer models have grilles with the Jaguar logo on the top, that the mounts are different, even though they look similar from a distance.

Hmm I found an apparent 2004 grille on ebay that had the jaguar emblem at the top, ideally that's what I am going for.

I beg to disagree....the original on the 2003 had the growler, and the 2000 I replaced it with (regrettably) did not. Sad to say, but she's away at college and I only had a short window of time with the car at home to effect the repairs....it was what was available. As to mounting, the 2005 and the 2003 mount in the same manner, I believe it is the rake-angle that is different between the two. The 2005 "Refresh" is to blame; Allegedly, the bonnet is also different. However, 2004 and prior, all exterior body parts and trims I believe are the same except for Growler vs. No Growler on the Grill and some minor differences in how the rear was badged.

^^ Zane is correct. The 2005-and-newer grills are shaped differently than the 2004-and-older grills due to the body panel refresh. I believe you will have a very difficult time making a new-style grill fit your 2000 car....

Right on, thanks again for the detailed info. I will be grabbing an 03 or 04 off ebay with the wire mesh and growler for about 120 USD. I cant really aesthetically tell the difference with the grille after 2005. I wish they didn't change the rear end on the newer model years or i would get a newer one, i like the original best.
