Default Value of a low mileage S type R?

Blue book is around $14K. I usually try to do a market comparison to get a real value but the few '05 Rs I have found for sale have over 100K miles, mine is at 53K. The car has no issues other than a bad RCCM, I should have a replacement in a few days. All the hard to get to hoses have been replaced along with a few others, new DCCV, radiator, and more. One family car and I even have the pre-delivery inspection and window sticker for those who like documents.

Only reason I'm considering selling it is because I found my dream boat and have to move on it fast leaving me very low on $. It's so tough thinking about selling the most awesome car I've ever owned, but while the car is spectacular, it doesn't really suit me either. I'm a truck and off-road guy, almost all the trips I take are for an off-roading adventure or I'm towing toys. Daily travels are mostly in my work van, leaving the Jag with little use other than being an beautiful decoration. It does look nice next to Ducati red, another one of my almost unused toys. I obviously have a sickness I should consider addressing.

Is 14k a reasonable price? Should it command a premium being a semi rare low mile car, or is blue book over estimating its value? I assume to the right guy it might be worth more, but I don't have a lot of time to find that guy. Honestly if someone were at my door right now with 12 I'd probably sign off without thinking twice just to move on, but I don't hear any knocking and prefer to not give it away if I don't have to. Trying to figure out what to do and knowing I gotta do it fast is nerve racking, sorry for the venting, and I'm glad I have a place to do it.

What say you knowledgeable guys about this cat's value?

I think the $12,000 to $13,000 range is probably right in the neighborhood. The biggest issue you face is that there is so little demand for the S-Type, it can be difficult to find a serious buyer even with an STR. You'll need to be patient for the right person to come along, and you'll need to advertise it through the right sources as well. The last time I sold a vehicle in the summer of 2012, autotrader.com gave me the best exposure and greatest response. It took a month or so but I held out until I got exactly what I wanted for my wife's 2004 Lexus RX330 SUV. I don't know if autotrader.com is still the best place to be these days, but hopefully you'll get some good advice from folks who have recently sold vehicles....

Good luck....

I've read so many times of people with non-Rs wishing they had one I thought it would be highly sought after, but then realized that on Jag forums I'll find the majority of the minority. Probably only 1 in 10,000 people car shopping that want this, or even know it's anything more special than a regular S type. I would feel better if it went to someone who knows what it is and wants an R. The last special car I sold was a 95 Mustang Cobra, so many people shop Mustangs it got a fair bit more views than this might. Been so long since I used autotrader I wasn't even thinking about it, thanks!

Do people there look at pistonheads? May be more suitable.

A quick look at local listings around Atlanta: $10K to a high of $14,500 (three 2005 models, lowest mileage 84K). Either I'm too practical, or just too old, but a supercharged 4.2 Cat is wasted on stop and go traffic. Unless you work an off-shift, or against the grain, you just don't get to open up that throttle! That's why you don't see too many local listings for STRs, here at least. Now, on I-5, that's another story. Maybe you get to unleash those extra horses - and should get quite a bit of local interest.

Check EBay - And see where the reserves are starting for such low mileage cars!

Let us know what you get for it.

My 2005 STR in perfect condition BUT with 119K miles the offer was $3K. SC hose also replaced.

That's truly sad but understandable when you factor in the perceived stigma of Jaguar unreliability combined with a model that nobody understands or wants anymore. No question that you made the right decision to keep your car....

I use the go a fair bit, not to top speed, but even getting up an onramp is a blast. The push into the seat along with the blower whine is a kick in the ***. Knowing you can get around someone in a flash is helpful as well as fun. The brakes are amazing too, but took a moment to get used to how much grab they have after driving normal stuff.

As for few listings, I assume that has more to do with the small number of these cars. Ebay may be the best place to try, still wanna keep it so it's tough...if only I had more space and money.

You tend to notice others driving the same model on the road as you. In my small area of an Atlanta suburb, I have seen at least 10 STypes (3 of the same color as mine, and one of these was a 4.0). None were a STR. I believe it's be too big a leap to go from used Gen 1 and early Gen 2 STypes, currently going for $5,000 average, into a STR for close to $10,000 more.

Meanwhile, the only car to pin me in my seat was a '15 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 I had as a rental. Must cost over $45,000. To get that experience from a 10 year old STR, at $15,000 WOULD be a bargain....
