Default Valve cover loosening sequence.

Hey all,

Getting ready to change out my cam cover gaskets and spark plug well seals etc. In looking in JTIS, i found the tightening sequence (see attached photo). would the loosening sequence mirror the tightening sequence or would it be reverse order?

Also, on the RH side cam cover is a circular part that bolts to it. The second attached photo only calls out the PCV pipe but when I do a search for the PCV valve it doesnt look anything like the circular part pictured. I ask because sometimes in cold start I hear a loud whistle vacuum leak coming from this part and need to replace it or at least get a new gasket for it. problem is i dont know what it is to buy it

Thanks again for your help guys.

No removal sequence on the valve (cam) cover.

Second picture is your EGR.

I helped a friend do the vvt and chain guides update on his V8 and all I can say is be very careful with any of the plastic stuff like that ventilation piece you made note of. We had a Jag tech helping us and still had a lot of the plastic connectors that just snapped. They get brittle with age.

That is very good advice!! As careful as I try it seems like the plastic is just gonna break!

Though some might argue it is a waste of time, it would not hurt to follow reverse order.

Default Seriously!!

What??!! Did Jaguar really engineer these things that well!!! Seems like there are an awful lot of us here on the forum changing out our valve cover gaskets at roughly the same time. Doesnt appear to be mileage, more around the vehicle ages I think...

That big round thing is called a "valve" in the JEPC. Its 2. in the picture. Updated part number is AJ87773. It is $39 from Direct JPLV Porsche Parts.com.

However, the leak could be coming from the hose that attaches to it. 1. in the picture. Updated part number is AJ811728. It is $66 from Direct JPLV Porsche Parts.com. Ouch!

Based upon the experience I had with these plastic bits (I actually never touched any of them, the Jag tech broke everything) I wonder if the following might have made things go better:

1. Try really hard to find out exactly how the connectors come apart before touching them. Trial & error led to mostly non-recoverable error in our case.

2. Maybe preheating the connectors and hose with a hair drier (not a heat gun) would maybe them more forgiving?

3. Then spray liberally with WD40 let it soak in and re-heat them.

Be prepared to replace them though.

What ever happened to steel & brass fittings with decent rubber hoses?

Thanks guys I have ordered the PCV valve and breather hose in preparation for my work.

I will be sure to use great caution when doing this but will report back as to how many parts i still had to replace.

I will add photos when I am done.
