VCM question

VCM question
All-
I have both an original VCM and VCMII with access to current versions of Ford IDS software. Will any of these work for my 2003 STR?
I don't really need to modify my tune and I know that the factory system probably wouldn't do that anyway. I just want to be able to download any factory updates to my PCM and TCM. (I also need to program some keys)
Is it better to find a way to use SDD or an aftermarket set up to give me live monitoring? I'm chasing a pesky P0400 and lean codes.
Question is..If money were no object..What system would you suggest to Program/Monitor/Flash/ a 2003 STR?
Thanks in advance

no the ford IDS will not work , you will need jaguar IDS .
the VCM-1 will work - but the VCM2 will not .
SDD is for post 04.5 / 05 cars
jaguar ids with vcm is the preferred way to program/flash and in most cases the only way .
elm327 with smart phone app is the simplest way to monitor
also the Icarsoft i930 is great value to get to more modules and networks within the car . for monitoring only i will add .

The problem you are going to have is getting the interface/cable.
You need the VMC(1) and these are no longer made as the I.C's (chips) used in them are no longer made. The VCM2 will not work.
I have been told you can use a Jaguar mongoose clone if you use the drivers that come with it, not the drivers that are with the SDD software.
However as I have a later 05 car that uses SDD I have never had this problem so I do not know if this is correct.
Others may know more than me.

Thanks Bob and all others that chimed in.
I guess what I really need to ask is this? Is the IDS the only system I can use to program Keys etc to a 2003 STR? I know these cars are getting a little long in the tooth.
I did use a Matco Maxgo tonight and had to manually enter the vin to monitor mySFT/ LFT numbers.
If IDS is not the way to go..I'll go another route if possible.

Scott-
Thank you so much for sharing your Google Drive files. Looks like now all I need it the hardware.
Will this rig work on a 2003 STR?

Now, SDD can be used. It will switch over to Legacy IDS for 2004 and prior model years.
I'd ask the seller to confirm that the cable is a legit Mongoose cable and ask for pictures of the serial number and confirm w/ Drew Technologies. You may find it's a clone serial number.
Proceed with the utmost caution...

I looked at the Ebay link and that cable looks like a fake. I doubt it's a Mongoose Cable. This could lead to issues, even with legit software.

The mongoose adapter may not work when using the SDD software that will auto change to IDS. It will work fine with SDD on later cars.
This is because IDS constantly looks for an echo from the Jaguar VMC (1) unit and the Mongoose is a Jaguar VMC2. So all you will get is an error message when SDD switches to IDS.
The dedicated IC's (chips) used in the original Jaguar VMC (1) are no longer made so it is now imposiable to purchase a new Jaguar VCM (1), second hand is the only option.
I have read on-line that the Mongoose will work with IDS if you only use the drivers that came with the Mongoose rather than the drivers in the SDD software.
However I do not think that SDD will then work with your Mongoose!
If this is correct, and it may not be, you will need a stand alone version of IDS (not SDD) to work with the Mongoose with the drivers that came with the Mongoose.
However as I have an 05MY car that uses SDD I have never had this issue myself so I could be wrong. Others may know more.
