Vin number
SAJAC03S021M45183
Whilst looking on jagrepair for bulletins related to my STR it seems that My above VIN number only appears on 1 bulletin. The others namely TCM reprogramming, Torque convertor issues only seem to be for cars with VIN45255 upwards.
I had my local jaguar dealer look into this when I was having TCM trouble and even they had trouble getting information on my vehicle, namely stating that it must be a pre-production model.
What exactly does this mean?
Have the press had hold of it and ragged it to within an inch of its life lol
JTIS says its a 2002.25MY but everything points to 2003 model year but manufactured Jan 2002
I am getting like a surge in engine revs between 40 - 60mph but the rev counter doesnt move from 1500rpm, I have looked for info and it could possibly be a faulty TC (hope not) since just spent £1500 on new TCM and fitting lol
First things first would it be beneficial for the dealer to look at and confirm latest TCM software is installed, or would this automatically have been done by the gearbox specialist who ordered and fitted the part direct from ZF in Germany?
By the way I am using the below site for my VIN number check

cheers

Don't confuse 2003 MY - USA with UK. It probably is 2002.5MY but it may be earlier and sounds like it it.
Some sort of testing car, that's what pre-production means.
Many sites get anything but USA cars wrong. They're virtually guaranteed to get your sort of car wrong. You'll be lucky if dealers and/or parts sites get it right!
That VIN site looks like one to ignore. It's terribly wrong.
I would say:
SAJ = Jaguar
A = ROW rest of world i.e. not USA to be blunt
C auto RHD
03 S-TYPE 4-door Sport Series
S emission: ECS 16
0 check digit
2 2002MY
1 Castle Bromwich S-TYPE 4.2V8 S/C
M... Production Serial Number
If you do much work and ever refer to JTIS be very wary as it may or may not apply to your car. You might have variations of anything.
When does your "log book" (V5 or whatever) say about its date(s) etc?
---
If anyone with half a brain and vaguely involved with these cars was involved they will have had no option but to program the TCM and they almost certainly used IDS/SDD which makes it very hard to put anything other than the right software in.
Er... what sort of alleged TCM trouble was it? They're almost bomb proof...

Cheers, the VIN number is correct for my UK model, but as you say finding a site to correctly show it is another matter. Would like to find out more about this pre-production model i.e worse than final released version or damn near to it. Typical that I will find mostly all the problems for this early year are yet to raise thier ugly head but will start saving for the future lol
regarding the TCM issues

my fault entirely
ps. the bloke who I bought it off said it was a press car with reg M7 JAG

May be true it was M7JAG but don't know how you'd tell (or really why you'd care as someone will have kept/acquired that plate).
Only place for more info is Jag themselves. N.B. they do not own dealers, which are franchises, so I really do mean Jaguar. Maybe they will tell you more if you ask. I doubt they'll go into the very detail you may need one day, though - but you could ask.

"I am getting like a surge in engine revs between 40 - 60mph but the rev counter doesnt move from 1500rpm, "
Not sure how you could get an engine rev surge without the tach indicating so but does the car do this only when cold, or at all times? If it's only when cold, it's a software quirk that Jag never really fixed.

I found some useful info on my 2007 S 3.06 Auto on this site https://topix.jaguar.jlrext.com/topix . Enter VIN and go from there. I have a log on, and it costs nothing to get a log on. Other services offerred come at a subscription cost.
Good luck

You get reasonable data from FordEtis home page
choose Vehicle tab and VIN entry
It's worth pressing the down arrow for the Minor Features
Looks like whereas I have heated (front) seats yours has some sort of temperature controlled ones - does that mean you can set the temp?

Definitely worth knowing if you are thinking of buying a 2000-2008 Jag.
