Visteon Air filter?

Visteon Air filter?
Hey gang,
New Jag owner here and doing some basic maintenance, namely tracking down the P171&P174 DTCs.
First things first, I notice right away that the air filter needs replacing. I purchase a cheap Purolator as according to the lookups online, but it doesn't fit 100%. I had to push down almost too hard to get the filter box back together.
Now, I see several posts about this Visteon system? Should I be looking for a different filter?
(And yes, I am very new to this car, 7 days purchased)
P.S. it's a 2003 S-Type V6 3.0 if the sig isn't working yet.

Huh, well, Google knows all, I suppose.
Still, the listed air filter didn't fit nice.
Visteon was the parts division of Ford Motor Co. Visteon is one of the largest auto parts manufacturers in the world today. Although still a huge part of Ford, Visteon spun off in the late 1990s and now has independent operations worldwide. It is one of the largest part suppliers in Europe while maintaining Ford Motor Co. parts in North America.

I like Purolator oil and air filters and have used them for decades on many different vehicles with zero problems. But the Purolator air filter that Purolator's own application guide says will fit our 2005 S-Type did not - it was perhaps a half-inch too long....
What fit perfectly was an STP SA9513 air filter from AutoZone. Less than $20 last October. Installed it then, and the car has run just fine ever since....
This experience taught me to take the current air filter footprint traced onto a large sheet of paper with me into the store to compare to the available products before actually purchasing....
Removal & installation hint: Take the entire airbox out of the engine bay to swap out the filter. You'll be glad you did....

removal & install tip: Dont need to take out the box, just dont unhinge the cover. Unlatch it, pull up enough to slide out the dirty filter and slide in a new one and fit evenly with your hand.
If you unhinge(or someone left yours unhinged) then by all meens remove it then, Yes it will be alot easier to rehinge...

2006 S Type 3.0L replacement air filter
I see Jon89 saying the Purolator replacement filter for his 2005 was too long and that the STP SA9513 was a good fit. I would like to add that the Fram CA9513 is also too long by about 3/16". I was able to squeeze it in there, but will try for a better fit next time. Thanks for the info on the STP filter.

Hi JPicasso,
Visteon was the original equipment supplier (OEM) of the air filters for the S-Type and X350, and if you purchase a new filter from a Jaguar dealer it will come in a Jaguar box but the filter will probably be marked Visteon.
The last time I checked, Visteon filters were not sold through the chain auto parts stores, but filters by Mann and Mahle are, and they are both top-tier OEMs that have made many of the OE Jaguar filters over the years. I've also had good luck with the Wix filters sold at O'Reilly and other stores, although one X350 owner purchased a Wix air filter that was about 1/4 in. too long. The Wix I purchased for our XJR fit perfectly.
Cheers,
Don
