Smile VVT Issue

I am new to the forum! I own a Jaguar 2001 S-Type, 3.0L car makes noise in the morning when I turn the ignition on. Took car to dealer was told I need a new VVT Mechanism, and will cost $3000.00. Can I drive the car or, will I have issues on the road. Somebody posted similar thread and said he had the car serviced by a local mechanic and noise stopped. Spark Plugs, Ignition Coil and Oil change is that posible to stop the noise?

Probably would help to know what exact code(s). You can Search on them. Also, some of them have specific actions such as a TSB.

They did not mention TSB

Most auto parts stores will read the codes for free. Always have them cleared after reading. I never act on anything until I can get a repeatable error code.

Be aware that some problems will throw multiple codes that have nothing to do with the problem. They will go away once the main issue is fixed.

Can you ask for them? Usually they will print them on the invoice, in the US Autozone etc will read them for you, I don't know about Canada, if not it may be worth paying someone to check.

A cheapish OBD tool will cost a lot less than swapping parts and hoping.
