Tonight it's in the high 30's in New York. Humidity is dropping whilst barometric pressure is rising. Helped the last patient then eagerly walked out of the office at 6:45 pm, let her warm, shut off DSC and armed Sport Mode. Made a right on to the main drag in second gear, then nailed it. She dropped into first and the tires lit up with intense blower whine and the internal flaps of the Dynomax VT mufflers opening up transforming them into flow through's. The forward charge was so brutal, I had to let go at the third to fourth shift due to the car eating up the road faster than I could manage the road and traffic ahead, required hard braking.
Stopped to pump in $20 (4.7 gallons) of 93 octane. Took it easy till I entered the parkway, then let her stretch out again with 70-100 mph charges that were executed within seconds. This is the behavior of a modded STR with both a cool intercooler circuit and cool outside air temps.; brutal accelleration, midrange, and top end grunt. If I didn't have a wife with four kids waiting for my return, I'd drive through the night....

Wow! You pay $4.25/gallon!!!!
Were getting 93 octane this week for $3.78. So much variation in gas prices.

I can relate. The mornings here have been a bit cool (40's*F) and the car feels so much quicker with every application of the throttle. I just dread the approaching Florida heat and humidity...

We pay 1.58euros per ltr in France!!!!

That's about $2 per ltr. I think there's about 4ltrs to a US gallon so we pay roughly $8 a US gallon.

You guys have got it made with those petrol prices.

Filling up a year old XKR someone lent me out of their collection cost less than $10 in Saudi.
Petrol is much cheaper than water.

My rough maths puts British fuel at about $9 a gallon

Yep, ours was $1.75/ltr a few hours ago.

At this stage I do NOT miss the V12's one bit.

I try not to think of fuel cost. Bit of a challenge, though

Seth nice!!

Since we are off on a tangent (seems to happen here in the S Type subforum), my DD holds 31 US gallons and the recommended fuel is 91 octane, yeah baby, 2 credit cards to fill her up! BTW my mileage is 14/18, not to bad for a vehicle that weighs in at 6,200 lbs. dry weight and AWD. I am not complaining.

Here in some states, the fuel stations automatically shut the pumps off around the $75.00 mark. Ours is one of those states.

Even our S-Type 3.0 runs smoother during our winter temps. My wife's XK8 loves our winters as well, although the convertible top must stay up for months at a time....

Enjoy winter while you can, folks. Before you can blink an eye we'll be dealing with miserable heat and humidity yet again....

Rick, how often do you have to fuel up your Escalade?

The STR certainly loves the cooler weather, I definitely notice the power difference on a hot day...

Shame I don't get to rip it around in the sub-zero (C) temperatures in the winter though, ah well, on the flip side, my winter-car cuts my monthly gas bill in half, so a bit of financial relief there in the winter season,

Spring is nearly upon us though, so I really look forward for the STR coming out of its winter slumber and getting back to driving her everyday... not to mention the new forgestars should arrive right about then as well... should be a good spring

Not that they are perfectly accurate measures of boost but when I lived in Ohio and drove my WRX, the boost gauge would read about 1psi more (~10hp) in the cold winter, if only for a moment before dropping to a marginally higher than normal boost. Gotta love cold, dense air.

The downside is that your tires and the road are colder and have less grip. But I had AWD

Seth, are you totally pleased with the Dynomax VT's? Are they really quiet until aroused, just like the Jag itself?

I love the way the car now moves in almost total silence until the SC begins to scream, and I would hate to lose that by fitting a Dynomax VT (or any other muffler for that matter). Not to mention that there are some reports of rattles, presumably the flaps. Look forward to hearing your opinion.

US$9 per IMPERIAL gallon or U.S. liquid gallon? The Imperial gallon is 20% greater volume than a U.S. (liquid) gallon. The U.S. standardized on one type of English gallon way back when, and then you British standardized on a different among several English gallons for your Imperial gallon. (Also, U.S. fluid ounces are larger and our pints are 16 fl. oz., so your 20 Imperial fl. oz. pints are larger. So you get more in a "pint"!)

@ bfsgross: Niiice!

Hi robin, the dynomax vt mufflers are great....quiet at idle, slight rumble during acceleration and near quiet during cruise. Only during hard acceleration is there a reasonably aggressive note, but nothing to complain about. IMO, what the str should have come with. The failed flap issue was solved a while back.
Any aftermarket muffler will allow more power than the stock mufflers. If the Dynomax VT's weren't available, I'd go back to stock mufflers...not anymore.

Jon anywhere from $45.00 to $55.00 a week. Back and forth to schools, dance, gymnastics and other such activities.

But with ski season coming upon us it will increase tremendously.

Not bad at all. I figured you would be spending twice that just to haul the kids around every day....

Hey Rick! 44, #2 Diesel ($ topping Prem in most locales,) and me neither

I pray it comes soon, Jon. LOVE the heat and humidity! Y'all are more'n welcome to the (flippin') cold air and all its associated performance attributes. Gimme 100F and I'll sit and be quiet!

(BTW, Exc isn't currently my DD (that's the X300's task) and thus only topping up about once/mo these days..but not so very long ago, when in kid/wife duty, it was getting a tank/week...or as close as possible due to Rick's issue - Card-cut-off at $75/$100/$125 - seems to vary by station, some would let it all ride on red 9, as-it-were)
