So I noticed where my spare tire is, that there is water sitting down in the well. Where is this water comming from. My car battery is down there too, so Im concerned. Is this a common problem ? The carpet thats covering the trunk area is not wet, only where the spare tire is. Please help.

s type since 2000 have had there trunks filled with water... even at there ports in halifax... there drain holes were never punched thru.. to drain excess fluid out.. under your car trunk area there will be 8 holes i think punch them all out...

I have the same problem. I specially get a lot of water when it rains.
So i decided to see if i can figure it out. I removed every thing form the trunk then
i got the water hose let it run for a couple of minutes and i noticed the the water
was going underneath the trunk seal so removed it added silicone to the lip where the seal
goes and around the bottom of the seal.. I'm still waiting for some rain to so if that was
the main problem.

I just had a huge problem with some electrical components in my trunk getting corroded from the exact problem. The ******* said the trunk seal at the base near the bumper was dry-rotted. They also drilled a hole in the trunk so no more water could build up. (So I can't tell if the trunk seal was the actual fix without filling the hole and dowsing it with water.) On my car it really appears that it is leaking at the seam right below the trunk seal at the top of the bumper. (Water creeps down the seam and into the bottom of the trunk never actually leaking onto the carpet.) Seems that the quick fix is to drill a strategically placed
hole down there to avoid puddling.

No need to punch holes in the boot floor, the problem will be with the boot (trunk) seal itself. Some replace it, some just lift it up and run some sealer along the lip and then replace the seal.
It will be leaking just about where the rear panels join beside the tail light cluster, even if you only apply sealant a few inches above and below thatjoint you'll sort it.
