Default Water in Trunk

Hey guys, I noticed the other day a pool of water in my trunk. The top cover (part you flip back to access spare tire, battery, etc.) was slightly damp but not wet enough for how much water was in my trunk. It looks like the seal around the trunk lid is in good condition. Anyone have any other thoughts on where the water may be entering?

Thanks!

A very well documented issue. Lot of discussion in the archives.

Thanks Mikey. Any advice on what to search for? I've searched for a bit now but am not coming up with any relevant results? Thanks!

Its typically an issue with the sunroof. It has a drain line, if it becomes clogged it will flood the trunk. The trunk space where the spare tire is does have a waste line so it will never fill up, maybe an inch of water or so at the most.

hmm, the various posts I recall were not due to the sun/moonroof.

It's well worth reading what others found as they often post what they did to diagnose & fix it.

Clogged moonroof drains typically cause rainwater to wind up on the cabin floorboards, not in the trunk....

The most common cause of water in the trunk is a leaking trunk seal. Sometimes re-seating the existing trunk seal will fix it. Sometimes the trunk seal must be replaced with a new one. If your trunk seal is not obviously damaged, try re-seating it first....

Awesome, thanks for all the help guys. I'm anxious to get home and see what I can do to fix this issue.

In case somewhat stumbles upon this down the road, here's one link I found:

No, we had a discussion about this last spring when I had to replace the radio amp that sits on the driver's side of the trunk.

The drain for the sunroof exits the trunk just ahead of the CD-changer/NAV/amplifier stack on that side. If you pull the trunk lining back you can see the rubber hose right below the trunk hinge going out the side of the trunk to dump the water in the wheel-well.

If there is a hole in that hose the sun roof will drain into the trunk.

Oh, my amp got wet and shorted out. It cost me $3k to fix. I never did find the leak but have now water "proofed" the amp. Hope it works...
