On a serious note. I highly endorse the iphone application: "Trapster".
And yes, you could use this where detectors are prohibited.
If you are zipping down the road and spy the nicest example of the 04 jaguar racing green XJR you have ever seen... that's me. I am trapster name "grpensa"
Cheers!

Endless debates, generally while at one time that statement is undeniably true, the bel GX/RX65 and several escorts, the X50, 9500xi and Redline exceed the range of the V1 and have many extra features...
Also if you're in the city and constantly deal with falses, the GPS models are a godsent if that's something that bothers you...
As pointed out, most detectors are an extreme gamble against the dreaded laser...

Anyway, does anyone recommend a moderately priced laser jammer/radar detector? One that works? For me, I think it would be a great investment. Thanks.

Fitted it right after I got a ticket from a laser-wielding officer, and never got another ticket for speeding after that. Sold it with the car, now thinking seriously about another for the STR.
The key to laser jamming is that the jammer picks up the first laser signal, jams it and sounds an alarm. What you must do is immediately slow down and turn off the jammer (in that order!), so that all subsequent attempts by the cop to get a reading will be successful, but your speed will by then be legal.
Works really well at 300+ yards away and remember, the cop has to wait for a short time before firing again. So, become as famliar with the position of the On/Off switch as you are with the brake pedal, because you only have a few seconds to react. At close range, things get more tricky - the cop will be more certain that his aim was good, and some laser guns may show a jamming error, all increasing the chance that you will be stopped.
In a ideal world, you would mount the detection nodes with one pointing slightly upward to allow for laser guns on an overpass, and be able to retract them before the cop examines your car.
In a less than ideal world, you will be transfixed by the jamming alarm signal, start looking for the cop, forget to turn off the jammer, and have to contact your lawyer later that day.

I had a Blinder M-20 (now superseded by the M-27) laser jammer on my previous car for about 3 years. Made in Denmark. Current cost of the M27 just under $500, Google "Blinder USA".

In the USA, it's legal to own a jammer in most states, so no lawyer required...But the majority of cops LOATHE them, if they believe you possess a jammer and all they ahve to do is look at front of your car to see if you have one, there's a good chance the cop will make your time on the side of the road hell...Extremely high odds you're getting a ticket for something...
