What if I don't align?
Hello Jaguar forums what happens if I don't align my timing chains? The left one from drivers view. I thought I had a head gasket leak so that's why I was down there.
Anyways the other side is aligned. I haven't taken apart the cams or chains. Can I use it as a reference? Also I don't have access to the sproket at the bottom I don't want to take the whole cover off. Does that play a role? Can I just align the two visible ones? Look at the other camshaft sprokets and match it with the one I'm putting together?

Well not enough info but there is no alignment. You need to replace them if you have a 4.0L V-8? All of them.
Or do you mean setting the timing of the cams since you removed the chain?
Need a special Jaguar tool and you need to do it right.

I need to put the timing chain back on the cams I didnt take it off fully I never took out the entire chain. Just the left side (drivers view) two long cams are off the car. On the other side they're still chained. Is there alignment for those cams? Can I just put it on and the chain and leave it?
