In Before The Lock.

Discussions about oil tend to get rather 'opinionated' with the same old arguments thrashed over and over again

The moderators will typically lock the post at the first sign of trouble. As jagv8 stated, follow the owners handbook.

Oil, if it says #W-##, it'll work. Use the brand you are confident with. Choose the proper weight for your climate. Synthetic vs conventional has its advantages and disadvantages. Lots of good info out there to sway you one way or the other. Sorry, but it won't be here.

There is a thread in the XK8/R area that simply asks 'what type and what weight'. That is all we allow these days. When you ask which is best, then the topic becomes taboo.

IBTL...thats a good one.

Yea...Kind of like talking about trans fluid as well....

David... Follow the suggested weight that is listed in the owners manual...

Beyond that it is all about choice. Use what you like. There is no "special magical Jaguar oil". Not so with the trans, though...

I just had to say it....

If you do not use Pennzoil Platinum Full Syn, your car will blow up, and every other oil on this planet is crap compared to this stuff dont care what anyone says......

PS Castrol Tranny oil is better than the Jag stuff.

All in good fun my friend, I'm clearly joking seeing as people defend motor oils and other fluids like they would their first born. People need to lighten up a tad.

If you want to make this thread go south in a hurry try bringing up precious bodily fluids.

Actually, Bertolli Extra Virgin Olive Oil is the absolute best lubricant you can put in your crankcase or on your salad. Alton Brown says so, so it must be the gospel truth....

This point is very true. We went on a cooking school vacation in Italy a few years ago and asked why the Bertolli oil was so much better. The instructor stepped out of the class for a few minutes, ostensibly to consult his colleagues, and returned stating that every olive grove had a panel of ladies that inspected each and every olive after it was picked. The best of the best were individually tasted, and if accepted were spat into the 'Bertolli' bucket for processing. That's why it tastes so special.

And here I thought Olive Grove was just a restaurant.

Hmmm. As I was halfway through your olive grove story, I was thinking that a much different orafice would be involved....
