So The Wife calls, she locked our only keys in the car. I told her to call insurance because it's covered. They came, opened the doors, she calls "how do u open the trunk, the button not working?". I say well push the key button. "The keys are in the trunk". OMG.
U get the idea. So long story short I grabbed some tools hopping I could remove the back seat to get into the trunk. Took about 10min but I gotthe keys. All is good now.
What not to do is...
DON'T LOCK KEYS IN TRUNK
what to do if u do is...
Remove the lower seat n all the lower bolts to top seat. Then squeez ur arm as far as u can in use a 12" extension and a tapped universal to form a hook. Pull the release cable down and pop it.
Wow what a pain in the but with 105 heat index. Time to get a new master key cut.

Lol to all. Very good stuff on this forum.
When she said she locked the keys in the car she failed to mention that they were in the trunk.
Monday I'm ordering a master blank on eBay then have the local Jag deler cut it. I'm not gonna program t but it'll be nice to have a spare "trunk" key. Lol

so I read this forum earlier this morning by pure chance. i was on the forum researching a completely unrelated issue but happened to look at this thread. so 6 hours later what do you suppose happened? we all know where this is going.....at my sister-in-laws house getting ready to leave when my wife locks the only key in the trunk! I couldn't believe it! what are the odds? i'd normally have skipped right over this thread but for some reason i stoppped to read it. glad I did. BTW...couldn't find the realease cables by feel but was able to pull the seat back far enough out to reach for the wife's purse (keys inside) and drag it across the trunk to me. the trunk realease on the dash didn't work for me either. would this be because i tripped the alarm when i reached in the open windows and opened the locked doors? don't ask me why she locked the doors and left the windows open, i have no idea. but glad she did so i could get to the backseat and start breaking into my own trunk.

That's what I thought. Thanks for clarifying. With the doors locked, could I simply have crawled in through the open window and used the trunk release on the dash or not with the system armed? In other words, did I make it harder on myself when I opened the doors and tripped the alarm?

I only have one key fob. The dealership was suppose to contact the previous owner to see about getting the 2nd one, but I never heard back.
One day I was using a small vacuum which plugs into the cigarette lighter and had the radio on. When the vacuum started slowing down suddenly it hit me that the car wasn't running. Before I could start the car, the battery died. Still new to the car, I pop the hood and was like, oh the battery is in the trunk..... which opens electronically. After reaching in through the back seat with a coat hanger and popping the latch, I found the key hole once the lid was open up to my eye level. *facepalm*

Are any of the lower bolts not visible? I have removed all that I can see and still can get behind the rear seat back.

On my 2005 model, you can leave the bolts in. They don't hold down the seat back. Not sure what they are for. Remove the two nuts below the armrest and the two nuts behind the side bolsters. You can pull the bolsters loose with your hand. Pull the door seal loose and it's easier. Now I can pull the seat back out far enough to shine a flashlight at the latch and take a flash picture with my camera. I can see the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
After failing to reach the manual release with a doubled butchers string inside a golf shaft, I was able to snag the T-shaped handle with a ceiling light bulb changer tool on a long shaft.
I have folded down the 60/40 seat backs in case I need to get back into the trunk if it gets closed and locked before I get everything fixed.
