What octane gas do you run

I wouldn't dream of using anything below what the handbook says (or indeed anything above the max). Note: the handbook is specific to the geographical area as is the PCM's calibration (programming).
BTW, you don't say which version of the car you have - facelift or original. The PCMs are very different as are the O2 sensors used for feedback.

You can run any octane level of gas you want- it will not harm the car. The only time it will make a difference is when the load on the engine (gas pedal position and/or grade) brings the engine to the point of pinging/knocking due to low octane. At that time the ignition will be retarded sufficiently to stop the pinging, but at the cost of horsepower and economy. The driver will most likely never notice the difference and will certainly never hear the pinging.
If you're easy on the gas and live in fairly flat terrain, 87 is just fine. I've used in all my high perf. vehicles on occasion and drive accordingly.

Not sure, I think the best we get in Texas is 91 octane. I used Sunoco 94 when I lived up north. Never have seen a Sunoco in Texas.
I thought the 94 gave the car a boost. Would be nice to get it if I wanted it.
Any one here know if we can get higher than 91 in Texas.
I guess I could buy some octane boost at the parts store, never tried it, not sure if it is good for the car.plus its expensive.

For what it's worth we have two near identical 2003 type S 6cyl 3.0 with auto trans and load basically what they sell at the pump, as follows: city driving 87octane; local country driving, midgrade, long cross country driving ,high test. All with no problems. If no trips out of the city we rotate between low test and midgrade every ten or so tanks. Just don't tell the dealer. PS Click and Clack agree motors can handle it.
