Default What type of MPG are you getting for v6

How is it going fellow jaguar enthusiast. I know this topic has been talked about bit in the past. What type of MPG are you guy's get in the 3.0L v6? I have a 2003 S-type v6. I use my car all day I drive it for work city/hwy. and I am getting 17.8MPG 18MPG on my trip computer. I have 80K on it now. I was getting like 20MPG when i got it about 2yr's ago with 35k. I think it time for a tune up.

Question for the tech's on here. What should I change out on my car for a tune up?
spark plugs, clean my K&N filter, oil change. What type of spark plugs should i get? Do you need a new manifold gasket, when u change the plugs? Any suggestions on what i should check or replace. Would be greatly appreciated? Thanks..

2005 S-Type 3.0 with 21,600 miles right now. Had it since December 19th and have put about 3,500 miles on it. When I drive, it gets about 20 mpg around town and perhaps 28 to 29 mpg on the highway. My wife managed to get about 31 mpg on the highway on a trip from North Carolina to Florida and back the week after Christmas....

I am getting between 23 and 25 mpg combined city and highway on mine with 53000 miles. It is a 3.0L V6 automatic. My highway speeds range between 65 and 80 mph with spurts up to 110 mph. I would say that I drive about 55 percent highway and 30 percent suburban setting and 15 percent urban type traffic conditions.

I am not a tech, but I would suggest changing the plugs and the filters at least. As for oil, I would continue to run 5/30 oil and look at a synthetic fill. I have tried Seafoam fuel injector cleaner and have found it to work well. Look at getting an injector cleaning as well. My guess is that the high operating temps and the burn characteristics of Premium gas dictate a more intensive fuel injection maintenance schedule.

When it comes time to change the air cleaner, I am going to go with a K/N air filter.

Hi,
I have a 2000 3.0 Liter SE SType with about 68K miles on it. I average over 28mpg per fillup during the summer and am currently averaging 26-27 mpg with the rain and colder weather. I work at getting good fuel economy and have done a few things to achieve this. The biggest improvement is through accelerating moderately, getting off the gas early and costing up to red trafficlights and avoiding overbreaking. Use use instant mpg reading to refine your throttle touch. The other things are upping the tire pressure to 42 psi all around, and using a grille block on the upper radiator opening during the cold weather. I may do some other aerodymanic improvements so that I can break 30 mpg average consistently. I also do this on regular gas. I just changed my sparkplugs and ATF about 1000 miles ago but it actually made my MPG go down initially as the ECU relearned my driving style. Its now back to where it was before the plug change. Besides the tuneup , check your wheels to make sure the brakes or bearings aren't dragging.
good luck, Vic

I average 20mpg in combined driving. Around 80 mph highway, then stop and go congestion in the city. When I've reset the computer on a weekend to see what it was getting around Akron running errands it was about 15 or 16. But that is light to light. Not a lot of traffic. I do drive it like a Jag and not like a Buick. Since you've only seen a couple of MPG drop, I would stick with the simple stuff first. One of them is to check the accuracy of the trip computer by comparing a tank. I would also change the fuel filter, plugs, oil, and see where you were at. I would also assume that since you have a K&N Filter that the air filter is in good condition. Let us know how you make out.

Man it looks like every one is getting better MPG then me. I am down to 17.2 MPG now. Thanks for the help every one. I also only run full synthetic oil and change it every 5,000miles. I am going to have to make some time in a week or two, to take it to the shop to have a tune up done on it. I am still thinking if i should do it my self. I have to see. I know i have to do my brakes all around. I will mabye do what i can when i do the brakes. How hard is it to change the fuel filter/were is it at? I have not look at my engine lately. What do you have to take off to get to the plugs?
