Hi all, I', looking for my first jag and has set my eyes on a year 2000 s-type 3,0. It has on gone 129.000 km. What should be my main mantainance concern?
Have read that electric windoes, the air con etc. can be issues?
Looking forward for all kind of feed back.

Remember, if something does go wrong with your s type, the cost to fix it will be extremely high, this is a luxury vehicle not a honda. S types are known to have a lot of mechanical problems like windows falling out, sun roof not working, window not going up, etc. I take it your from Canada, I'd make sure to get it certified and e-tested.

true, the 2000's can be problematic, and if you look in the s-type section reading thru the many various posts, you'll see the early 2000s (including the 01s and 02s) require the most attention.
Its not certain that every 2000 will have the same issues, but you must take statistics and probabilities into account. If you can afford most of the same repairs, then keep looking at these cars. Just be well informed in your search, and you'll be fine.

Granted all first year models tend ot be more problematic, I've had my 2000 stype 3.0 for 10 years now. The key was the extended warranty. The bigger issue is the engine size, the R and 4.0 tend to have more issues. Every article I've read indicates this.
Common issues: The ignition coils go out very easily. I've replaced my (all 6 a few times). The coolant reservoir cracks (there was a service bulletin for this). Check the maintenance records to see what they did and where.
In ten years I've:
-replaced both door motor kits
-ignition coils
-water pump
-coolant reservoir
- wiper motor
- tie rods
- Headlamps (they discolor fast)
- Accessory belt
Some of these things are just normal maintenance.Common issues: The ignition coils go out very easily. I've replaced my (all 6 a few times). The coolant reservoir cracks (there was a service bulletin for this). Check the maintenance records to see what they did and where.

I love my car and it's rock solid.

I had some Jags in the 80`s before going back to them a few years ago, and although in the 80`s they wernt perfect they were built (in my opinion) a damm site better than Ford made them when they took them over and basically just threw them together. In the 80s I had two problems with the Jags I Owned, 1 was a water pump and 1 the Jag badge fell off. I have had more issues with this Ford Jag than i ever have. Hopefully the new owners will sort out these issues, but good luck in getting a good one, you never know, you may be a lucky one.

Hi JagV8, its a late 2003 (so its not pre-facelift - as I beleive so) and its a 2.5. Just had to purchase an digital manual to find out where the parking switch is and also now how the parking brake works as there is a terrible noise coming from it when putting the Hbrake on. MORE problems. I wonder if Tata can improve the build and reliability. I wonder if Tata will also relaunch the British Daimler ?
