Default What are you feelings on this....

I work at a Buick and GMC dealership as a salesman. I have owned two Cadillacs before my S type, and I thought I would never buy anything else...until I drove a trade in we got, 2005 S type. My question is, would you or do you have other mechanics work on your Jaguar other than certified Jaguar mechanics. My service guys are unbelievable with many years of experience (mostly GM but other makes as well). It is not a problem to take my car to the local West Chester, PA Jag/Land Rover dealership, but I would prefer to get my work done by my guys. Thanks for your input.

Yes, fanatastic mechanics are fantastic mechanics. Believe me, not every "technician" at Jag dealers are outstanding.

Only thing is that for some issues, I think Jag dealers are the only ones with the proper tools to get it done i.e. electroniics etc. Not 100% positive though

I rarely take my car to the dealer as I feel that my mechanic is just as qualified.

Go for it. Brakes and so on should be easy for them. Make sure they use the right fluids (oil type, coolant etc) but no big deal. Also, to use the right filters, and gaskets when it's time to do plugs/coils, but anybody competent can fit them. Warn them that the lug nuts are poor design so to be REALLY careful (maybe avoid air tools) - consider swapping them for better ones (see threads on here).

You'll probably never have electronic module / OBD problems but if you do you may finally need a dealer.

In case you need a wheel alignment, get the specs etc off here as many shops have the wrong (i.e. old) data.

Hey Boston guy, thanks for replying. I just always loved Cadillacs, but we traded in an 05 Jag s type in my dealership and loved it. I get trade ins at wholesale price, so I thought what the hell. I'm only 23, love my s type, but when I can afford a Buick LaCrosse CXS I am buying it in a heart beat. Test drive a LaCrosse if you haven't already. Beats any Japanese **** in looks and ride.

Yea...and GM killed the best RWD car they had in North America! The Pontiac G8....If you want a rear drive car from GM now you only have three choices..Camaro, Corvette, or CTS/STS. But that is two more than Ford offers.

Oh wait....If your a cop in North America Chevy will let you buy this:

A Holden Statesman badged as the Chevrolet Caprice PPV.

Why do I get the feeling that someone is unable to quit being a GM salesman?

I followed the link. A 2010 Lacrosse, with as many goodies as they offer (which is by no means all that an S-type has) that are like Jaguar costs more than twice what I paid for my 2006.

I'm finished with GM ever since they killed Oldsmobile. They could go bankrupt and I won't be shedding any tears...

They DID go bankrupt... Then the Obama Adminstration gave them 60 or so billion to keep it up and running cause of all the jobs it would have cost the midwest...

Seems like they are actually trying to make decent cars these days, and can be profitable since they got the UAW monkey off their back at least partially, and wrote off all their old debts lol.

My other car is a Buick LaCrosse 2010 and it rides like a dream. I never thought I could find a car as nice as a Jag to ride in but this Buick is fantastic. Highly recommend it.

In my personal opinion, a car is a car when it comes to being serviced. nomatter what you drive there will always be specific issues the dealership is th best place to bring it to. That being said, if you trust your guys.. you shouldnt bring it anywhere but them until they tell you they can't do the job you need them to do. It is hard enough to have faith in any mechanice (which is why i educate myself on any vehicle I have and do my own work) If you have a guy/guys you trust.. you trust them for a reason.. use them first...

Ira, you need to drive a Buick LaCrosse CXS to appreciate it. It isn't a Jaguar, but it smokes my 3.0 S type I have. I love Jaguar and would buy another one in a heart beat. Why are you bashing GM? They are a revamped company which has been struggling for reasons that would take up this entire thread. I am happy to work for the new GM and it definently is "new". I do very well and so does the other five salesmen that work there.

Sorry, but I have to bust..... It may smoke a S-Type until it torque steers into a ditch....

Don't worry though...As the largest global supplier of Delphi Electrical Connectors, GM's health is important to me as well....

I just get frustrated that some of their best products are only sold in other countries...Holden does economical rear drive better than anyone yet they won't sell them over here..My wish....

Sell the Commodore as the Chevelle along with the Ute as the El Camino.... Do a re-skin and bring the Supercharged Commodore over as a Gran Sport Buick...

Hi Hall,

I am not bashing GM.

I could even find nice words to say about it, if it were appropriate here.

I'm just skeptical about a post that lauds another product on a Jaguar forum, just as I would be about someone lauding any other car here.

Same here as far as GM and my relationship. Frankly, I wish the Gov. would have just left them to survive or crash, without help. But that is another topic all together. If I had both cars hanging off a cliff and could only save one, would not even have to think about it.... the Jag. And also correction on model I have, sorry, its not Lacrosse, its Lucerne. That new Lacrosse looks like a copy of a BMW without the class. Lacrosse looks very plastic to me and leave it to GM to make it look that way. Kind of like a 2000 dollar suit with 35 dollar shoes. Just can't get it right.
Lucerne, well kind of an old mans car but the ride is the closest I have had to the Jag.
