Default What are you planning?

Well, I think that the time has come to list the work left to do on the car. What are you planning to do?

1. Replace driver's headlight (auto-level is broken)
2. Replace all floor mats
3. Polish and port supercharger (fix until Andre's twin screw is ready)
4. Chip
5. K & N filter
6. New headers (Jet Hot coated)
7. New exhaust (milltek for sure)
8. New pulley (2.5lb-3.0lb)
9. Body kit
10. New paint (charcoal gray) yup, the whole car
11. Fix wheels and repaint
12. Lower car with new springs and shocks

Wow, thats quite the expensive list. Your going to paint the whole car?

Here's mine:

Asap:
-re-spray front bumper
-wheels refinished with more of an aluminum-look paint
-tune up, havent decided exactly what to do yet
-new parking aid module
-silver/chromium turn signal bulbs for the rear

In due time:
-"R" stiched floor mats
-half wood matching steering wheel
-custom "R"'s stiched on the seats
-neon underbody lights and a dangling crown for the rearview...............jk

As always, just want to keep ours cruising along in great shape spending as little money on it as possible. Zero complaints right now - our S-Type is performing its duty splendidly....

....always the practical one, with no desire for excess. C'mon John, you know you want some nice 18's on that.

Man I wish I could be like that.

Bull27,

You could always teach your wife how to use the Engineering Test Mode.

Short term:

Replace all the filters
Clean out the throttle body
Replace the brake pads

Long term:

Try to convince wife I can get the Coventry wheels
GPS for her so I don't have to give her directions over the phone. Last week, she made a wrong turn and made a scenic tour of Dulles.

Bull,

I'm not always "the practical one". It all depends on my true passions. You should see and hear my home stereo system in my "music room". It's worth more than our S-Type. My set of twin 1975 Altec "Voice of the Theatre" speakers are irreplaceable. They weigh over 400 pounds each and they are no longer made. When my wife is visiting her parents in Tampa, I sometimes get complaints from neighbors a quarter-mile away to "Turn that damn thing down Jon - do you think you're 18 again?"

Step 1. Sell 2002 3.0
Step 2. Buy 2007 STR with Barcelonas and NAV.
Step 3. Work on my Bronco.

Jon,

Are those the ones about 5 feet high and about 3 feet across? The PX in Kauserslauten had some in their electronics department if they are the same ones I'm thinking of. At the time they were around $1K or so.

Mike,

My Altecs are right at 6 feet tall, 3 feet wide, and 3 feet deep. I custom-ordered them from Altec in California in August 1975 when I was not quite 22 years old. They cost me a little over $4,000 for the set at that time (I still have the original receipt), a huge amount of money for me then. But I knew that they would be with me for the rest of my life as long as I could get parts, and I had some inheritance money from my dad who had died about 18 months earlier. I decided to go for it, and man, am I glad I did. When Altec finally stopped custom-building these speakers in the late 1980s, they were selling for right at $8,500 a set. No telling what mine are worth now, but I've had the owner of a highly-technical local acoustics shop (who replaced both woofer cone surrounds for me in 1999 when the original foam surrounds were breaking down and causing the bass notes to sound a little muddy) offer me $10,000 for them sight unseen (I removed and carried in just the woofers for the re-build - they're 24 inches across and weigh almost 100 pounds each). I said thanks but no thanks. He said to call him if I ever changed my mind. A couple of years ago, I took my twin Bose outdoor speakers (mounted under the eaves on our back deck) to him for re-coning. Although he hadn't seen or heard from me in nearly 9 years, the first thing he said to me was "Are you here to sell me your Altecs?" Pretty cool, I think. I've always told my wife that if the house ever catches on fire, she better grab what's important to her because I'm going after my Altecs and that is probably all I'll be able to handle once my back gives out. As you might expect, she's not very happy with my plan....

3. Drive Jag faster.
4. Fill up with gas.
5. Wash Jag.
6. Repeat.

Cheers!

Parts for this summer’s projects on the STR on the whole are in the workshop ready to go; scope includes new CAT back, re-finish front clip for stone chips, transmission, rear diff & PS oil change and work on the underside as car was driven through gallons of yellow paint in a former life.

After that, I am following Spitfires drive, gas, wash repeat plan.

I want pics of this!!!!!!!!!

What are you powering them with? I wish I was 20-30 years older when it comes to electronics! My home theater prob pales in comparison.

My plan:

18" Vulcans.. Check
Chrome Mesh grille.. On the way, not installed yet
Window Tint Coming soon
Crazy stereo install... Starting the week of may 10th when I have some time off of work. I have everything ready except for time.
After that I think I'm done.
Oh and a really good detail after it's all done, and then maintenance washes and wax.

LOL I love it! What she doesnt know wont hurt her, right? Like she would EVER notice that my front bumper was re-sprayed. If a pair of shoes she hasnt worn for 2 yrs were moved she would hawk that out within a couple minutes, but front bumper, no way.

Oh and I already commented on the "curb feelers" in another thread.

One more on the to do list:

1) transport Jon's stereo system to Boston and install in STR
