$600 for a bearing
$600 for brakes
$500 for ballast and bulb
$500 for new rear tires
$2200 total

All this in one month, hence the reason that the Jag is gone. Never again will I own a used car as a primary driver.

With this car, the most I've spent in one shot was $1700 installed for the exhaust system and the drilled/slotted rotors and EBC brake pads. $300 for window tinting, $

For my other cars...'98 Caddy STS I spent $4400 for a brand new OEM trans including install.

2005 Jaguar S Type: Bought late 2008 for $19,000 w 32k miles (originally $48,000 new) Select Edition Certified. Traded in 2011.

Repairs $0.00

2006 Dodge Grand Caravan: Bought in mid 2007 for $15,000 with 19k miles (originally $28,000+ new)

EGR Valve = $80.00
Rear A/C Repair = $300.00 (Needs redone and will cost another $300)

2007 Chrysler 300C: Bought in early 2011 for $17,800 with 36k miles (originally $35,000+)

Replaced Faulty Radio Head Unit = $90.00 (Ebay Used Unit)
Rebuilt Climate Control (replaced bulbs) = $50.00

This doesn't include brakes / tires / exterior bulbs / oil changes / ect.
I consider those maintenance and not repairs...

This is why I will NEVER buy a new car as a daily driver.... Sorry Enthusiast, I couldn't help myself....

Annual costs:
#1 fuel (expensive here), about $3300
#2 depreciation, about $3000 (guessing, depends how long I can keep it)
#3 insurance, about $700
#4 all the rest, incl. repairs

If I'd bought it new, the depreciation (or lease) would be #1 by a wide margin.

edit: depreciation for the former owners was about $15,000 per year

I could swear I posted in this thread yesterday, but don't see the post. Ah well maybe my brain needs repaired too.

Largest bill by far was a tranny for my X Type. About $5,000 after it was all said and done. I did get some money back from the dealer after a snafu with my extended warranty that cut about 2 grand from that bill.

I spent about $2500 on just parts to completely overhaul the HVAC system in the Rover. I mean everything was replaced.

You`ve been lucky. I don`t want to have to wake and wonder if the car will be able to make it through the day (especially on long trips).

Just not worth it. The Jeep costs me nothing (my lease payment is ridiculously low) and gets me where I need to be.

My classics are money pits, but I`m okay with that - they aren`t the day to day grocery getter.

A lot lol:

In one month,
New Bilsteins non cats with mounts, 2 Gaskets, fixed DCCV problem, recharged A/C.
Just my luck the dreaded coolant leak under the manifold issue happens as im taking it out of the shop! Also, New front suspension kit: Front upper and lower arms, links, and sway bar bushings, rear tie rods and links. In addition to two tires and three rims.

I lost track, but think it approaches a little over 4 grand

one more thing: new 7" pioneer touchscreen

I live in Houston, got the Pioneer AVH- 4300 w/o Navigation for $345, plus $40 for the double din kit, $30.00 for the harness. The bad part is that due to the factory Apline system, they had to do an amplifier bypass, which entails running speaker wire from the dash to the trunk, charged me $50.00, looked like a PITA to do in this 110 degree weather.

Total $465.00,

Ive seen another individual paint the climate module and kit to match perfectly. I may do this in the future.

Just adding info to the forum. What is your biggest repair bill? Answer for me: $13,000.00 US Dollars. I paid $1500 of it. The rest was via the bumper to bumper insurance policy. Front end, rear end and trans. Still purchased the same car but 3 years newer! Love my car!

The bills being discussed as no more than many I have heard of with friends and colleagues Fords, Vauxhalls, Renaults, BMWs etc. The £900 for a set of Audi A5 tyres made the Jag bill for just over £500 for a set of Dunlop Sport Maxx seem not bad at all.

Bought Sep 14

Mileage 44570
Mileage now 47950

Full set of Mitchelin Pilot 3 Sports - £720
Replacement TCM module - £1200
Gearbox refill - £260

total £2180

The TCM module was my fault so just tyres really, although with mine being one of the first str's on the road (Jan 02) I have all the nice expensive faults to come

So far I have repaired the DCC, replaced brakes, replaced both belts, new horn, but now the cooling issue although it should be the simplest is kicking my butt.

Car would not start, not even crank over. Long story short, after two days, the mechanic repaired the EMS control relay wiring. $1,400 US

Wait until I get the car back from the dealer after they replace the main stereo amp in the trunk and replace a headlight ballast (they quoted ~$2400 for the amp before labor, and that is after charging me ~$450 to diagnose a failed amp, and ~$1000 for the ballast).

Wow you replaced a horn on your STR too?

I have owned a lot of cars over the years but my STR has needed two horns!
They are cheap but very odd to lose two of them.

Completely replace front suspension on both sides. Upper and lower control arms, sway bars, ball joints, bushings, alignment, etc. $1500, labor included.
