Default Wheel questions (yes another wheel thread)

(I've done a lot of searching)

First off hi! I've been lurking on this forum awhile and the community seems great and I'm glad to join it.

I have just purchased a '03 STR...which is in mechanically good shape and has 78k miles. My top priority is replacing the wheels though as it currently has an ugly 235/35/19 setup all around...no thanks. These need to go asap.

In a perfect world I would go OEM, but I'm feeling it could take me months to locate 4 good condition OEM wheels and not pay $1500+. I have an ad up in the wanted section, but I am not expecting to have any luck (soon).

Stock wheel dimensions are 18x8 and 18x9.5 w/ an offset of +60. Between the bolt pattern and the offset there are not many choices.

Will a wheel with a +45 or +40 offset work? That pushes the wheel out ~15mm or .6". Are the stock wheels really that close to being flush? I do not mind rolling the fenders (did on previous car) but I'd like to avoid this. My main concerns are brake clearance and that the wheel doesn't stick past the body. I really have a hard time believing there isn't another 15 or 20mm of room...but I have no car to look.

The 5x108 pattern is an issue too. Can a 5x100 pattern not be machined out to 108?

Right now my options appear really limiting. Forgestar seems like a great possibility but I'd rather not spend $1600 AND wait 6 weeks. My goal is to keep total wheel cost (not including tires) under $1200.

A lot of TSW's look great but the bolt size is off...Coventry I'm not blown away by. Most other brands the lug size is off.

Tell me what to do for wheels please!

You options are very limited. Jaguar has an uncommon bolt pattern and an unusually high offset. For $300/wheel, you will likely have to run a square 18x8 setup with some cheaper brand of wheel or something used if you can find it. I wouldn't know about machining the bolt pattern, but keep in mind the center bore size must be large enough to clear the hub. Too large of a center bore will require hub-centric rings to prevent vibrations.

I'm one of the few people on this website with aftermarket wheels and let me just save you the hassle and refer you to Forgestars. I could not find wheels for the STR because of its high offset and screwy bolt pattern. The only other car I found that had matching bolt pattern, center bore, and bolt size Size (12mm) was a Maserati 3200 except their offset is much higher. I tried my friend's Corr custom forged wheels off his Maserati 3200 on my STR and it stuck out past the fenders about 8-9mm, enough to throw rocks all over the car behind me. Plus it looked ghetto sticking out like that and your fenders are already rolled from the factory what you would need to do is flare the fenders which would cost you as much as buying OEM wheels from the dealership. So there is no other make/model car to that are compatible that you can cross shop with, leaving you to the STR's exclusive deminsioins. No one really made off the shelf rims for these cars, not even OZ or BBS everything had to be made custom to order. There is Coventry (made by TSW) but for the STR they are not staggered and are kinda ugly. I wasn't about to spend $$$$$$$ on forged aluminum wheels like HRE, Forgeline, Kinesis, etc. so when my friend told me about Forgestars I ordered a set right away. They look great and cost as much as most cast wheels, and they do the dimensions perfect and gives the car stance and brake clearance is not an issue. But like You said they are custom made to order so you do have to wait 6 weeks or so before you get them but it's worth the wait

You're right. After I made this post I decided only way I'm going to be happy is by going with Forgestars. I saw goblue90's car with the CF5 as 18's and I think that is what I'll do since I daily this in pothole land and it will save me a few hundred all said and done. The price is ridiculously good for forged wheels.

I guess there will be at least 3 STR's on here with gunmetal CF5's Now I just need to hope I don't regret a year down the road not getting 19's.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I kinda wish I went with 19s vs 20s. 20s are too big to get a decent series tire underneath it.

Those 20's do look fantastic at least.

Maybe see if you can swap with someone who has OE wheels?

Don't forget that the other model Jag's have the same bolt pattern & hub size.

I've seen STR's with X350 XJ wheels on them without issue.

You should look at OEM & aftermarket wheels to suit;

Jag XF X250
Jag XK X150
Jag XJ X350
Jag X-Type X400
Various Euro Fords
Volvos, and Landrover Freelander

The only sticking point is the offset.

I went through the same trouble finding wheels for my 2005 XKR. There are few designs in a 20 inch wheel that worked for me. I had the additional issue of 9.5in on the front and 10in on the rear.
There seemed to be a better selection in 19in wheels.
I ended up buying 20 inch black TSW Donnington wheels for my ride. Love the way the look and for $450.00 each they were a deal.
I know TSW have a few that fit also in chrome and satin finishes.

I'm not sure if the STR wheels have the same bolt pattern. Maybe someone else can advise.

There are some pix in the link below my signature.

Ordered some Forgestar CF5 in gloss gunmetal today. Should look great on a silver car with a drop. I'll make sure to post pics when they get installed.
