when filling fuel tank pump keeps shutting off
Greetings!
My first post since joining and introduction. New to me 2005 S type 4.2 80,000 miles. When filling the tank with fuel the pump keeps shutting off - temporary solution manually fill very slowly. I pulled the PO records and see that at 37K miles it went into the Jag shop and was fixed under warranty for the same problem. At that time it turned out to be the Vapor Valve [mechanic's notes says fuel tank vent not passing air to canister close vale] part #XR848110 and gasket/retaining ring/clamp [around $350 for those parts]. In order to accomplish this the tank had to be removed.
My question - is there something else to check first? Also when looking at the parts diagrams it appears that the fuel tank is different for the R version - does the R have 2 fuel pumps or just a different position [just wondering]?

The one and only recall on the 2005 S Type was the fuel tank. There seems to be a 10 year limit to recalls and we are in the tenth year.
But it might be worth some effort at the dealer. We have seen cars that require more than one trip to the dealer to fix.
You don't have the fuel spillage or odor but others have reported the filling problem is related to the same recall.
My 2005 STR had it done before I got the car and I have had zero problems since. My entire tank was replaced.
Yes you are right the "R" has a different setup but uses the same tank. So the dealer might use a different part number on your NA V-8 compared to the STR.
Here is the recall. It does have some numbers you can call;
2006-11-01(Published by NHTSA on 2006-11-01)
Recall Summary: SOME PASSENGER VEHICLES MAY HAVE FUEL TANKS IN WHICH THE FUEL DELIVERY MODULE (FDM), JET PUMP MODULE (JPM), AND/OR CLUSTER VALVE (CV) SEALS ARE NOT PROPERLY RETAINED IN THE FUEL TANK. THIS MAY RESULT IN ILLUMINATION OF THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP (MIL), OR A FUEL ODOR.
Hazard: IF THE AMOUNT OF FUEL IS ABOVE THE FDM, JPM, OR CV APERTURES, FUEL MAY BE DISCHARGED ONTO THE GROUND. FUEL LEAKAGE IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE FUEL TANKS TO DETERMINE IF REVISED SEALS MAY BE USED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. IF NOT, DEALERS WILL THEN REPLACE THE ENTIRE FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY. DUE TO PROBLEMS IN OBTAINING THE REPLACEMENT FUEL TANKS, THE RECALL BEGAN ON JANUARY 29 THROUGH MARCH 30, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT JAGUAR AT 1-800-452-4827.
Additional Info: JAGUAR RECALL NO. R176.CUSTOMERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO Home | Safercar -- National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)

Do you think that the Malfunction Indicator Lamp [MIL] mentioned in the recall refers to the "check engine light"? The PO advised me that the check engine light comes on from time to time and he was told that it was a sensor that required pulling the tank at around a $800 charge. He chose to ignore it as it was only an occasional problem. I've had the car for over 90 days and it has only illuminated once and went off after a restart. I had a similar problem in my 98 C280 sport Mercedes for well over 150,000 miles. I'll check it out with Jaguar and the local dealer next week.
