Where is the oil going?????
4.0 V8. The engine is using some oil. No leaks. No telltale on the exhaust pipes. Mileage is 24.6 mpg hwy today. Total miles is 88,888. About a quart every 600 miles on the highway. Around town, not so much. Oil used is Valvoline full synthetic 5w-30. The engine runs as smooth as baby oil. Any ideas where the oil is going? I change oil every 4000 miles. Thanks.

Do you have any concerns about the camshaft bearings not getting the oil fast enough on start up?

If anything it's helping get pressure quicker with oil flow not far behind , any way
If you've ever pulled an engine apart you'll know there is always residual oil from the previous run , mines been on 10w 30 for over a year now ,
and as I said the engine sounds better than ever , in my ownership anyhow .
so no not concerned .

Hi There,
Not sure this is of any help but I noticed some oil loss, due to living in the desert and seals drying up and leakage happening. Especially during our colder winter months(shrinkage???). Anyway, I took my Jag to my faithful mechanic to replace the dried up seals with new and he explained there is an under carriage or plate where fluid like this is collected so it doesn't go all over the garage floor or driveway. Sorry, don't know the technical term? I had no clue that Jags had this type of oil/fluid catch system.

In all likelihood he is referring to the undertray (better known as the belly pan). Its purpose is to protect the low-hanging vulnerable components (such as the HVAC compressor) from road debris. It collects leaking oil, ATF, coolant, power steering fluid, etc., simply because it is there. But when you drop the belly pan to do routine maintenance on the vehicle, be careful regarding where you position your face. You could wind up getting a mouthful of whatever fluid is trapped in the belly pan....
