I would be more concerned with the hazed over headlamps and what ever else has been neglected over the years. Those look to be factory door guards, I believe that they were on Canadian spec vehicles. My bet is that they will leave a mark after all these years.
Make sure you go over the vehicle with a fine tooth comb, I would even go so far to see if any codes have been recently deleted.

Paint thinner will not remove paint fade. It is after all a 14 year old vehicle that looks as if it hasn't had much in the way of cosmetic upkeep, no offense.
Just a note, don't be surprised if you will have to run the full gambit under the hood, vacuum hoses, plugs, COPs, oil seals, etc....

Hard to tell from the photo but I agree it probably needs some elbow grease.COPs = coils? I'm going to take a look at it this week along with the 2006 3.0 I've had my eye on for quite a while. Surprised it hasnt sold 132 000 kms 2006 for a lil over 7 grand sound right ?
