Default Windshield Washer Pump Replacement

This is a strange one and I am a bit confused. I am troubleshooting my issue with the windshield washer and I have identified that the Windshield Washer Pump (WWP) is the problem. As I am replacing it, I have noticed that the WWP wires have 12V when accessories are on or when car is running. Furthermore, the Jaguar S-Type 2005 manual (fig 13.1) shows there is no switch between the Front Electronic Module and the Windshield Washer Pump (see below). Previous versions of the S Type had a switch. Hence, there will always be 12V to the WWP with no switch to turn it off.





Does this sound right? Seems like WWP would just run once I wire it in and burn out! What am I missing here?

I hooked up the Fluid Level Sensor and the WWP operated as expected with 12V only when the washer button was pressed! Problem solved!

Good that you have sorted your fault.

For future reference most of the jaguar electrics work on a switched earth system, not switch live. The 12v positive is live to most items when the ignition is on. It is the earth that is switched on and off.

Unless you know this it can make fault finding appear a bit odd compared to other cars that switch the12v positive..

That's a VERY good point and I am still confused why all the car manufacturers changed to this setup?
Must be better in some way. Sure can be puzzling when troubleshooting!

Easier for driver circuits triggered by the CPU in a module?
