Default Winshield Wiper blades in winter

Greetings and a Happy New Year!

So, I experienced my first snow and ice with my new to me 2005 S type. Yes the windshield wiper design is wanting. The passengers wiper froze to the windshield and ripped the wiper blade when it turned on [I will be taking it out of the automatic position for the rest of the winter]. I read all the threads I could find and was wondering if anyone has a solution to the build up of ice and snow in the wiper pocket? I am forced to park outside in the Michigan winter. I was considering some type of cover that I could keep in the trunk and place over the "pocket" when the car is not being driven. I thought that someone out there has probably already solved this problem. Off to purchase a new 19" insert.
Thanks in advance,
Gery

I spread a windshield blanket over the glass, wipers, and trailing edge of the hood whenever a snow or ice storm is forecast.

I picked up a windshield blanket for under $6 - seems flimsy but should help. Probably will use some magnets to keep it in place. After reading the threads on windshield wiper replacement I found that the Trico 45-190 works perfectly as a replacement blade for the passenger side.

Ya, mine's like that, too. But it is long enough that it wraps around to the doors. When I use it , I pull it tight across the windshield and then close the doors on both sides to hold it in place.
